I recently just finished watching Upload. The two black ladies in the main cast were super amazing.
Watching the show, I was mostly fixated on Aleesha (Zainab Johnson). I was particularly drawn to the ways her character’s hair was styled.

Checking her out irl, I believe this was a situation where her personality morphed into the character and it was still a breath of fresh air to see.

The styling choices were just right on point. It’s been a while I’ve seen anyone in the media that embraced their hair this fully. As someone trying out different styles for my hair, I was really inspired. It really made me proud when she appeared on the screen. My black girl senses were so awakened every time.

I believe our hair is not meant to be boring and we should be expressive enough with our hair as we are with everything else.

I’ve been going on and on about the same point but I still don’t think it captures it enough how happy I was when she was in a scene.

Exactly as the title says, I believe The Office is a documentary about how Dunder Mifflin eventually ends. In The Paper it is revealed that Dunder Mifflin doesn’t exactly go out of business but it is bought out by Enervate. There are several reasons a company accepts a buyout from another company. One of the primary reasons is usually financial. For Dunder Mifflin, it is a mix of financial factors and several hr violations.
The documentary crew captures how all of this played out. In no particular order, these are my observations that collectively lead to the business getting bought out:

Michael Scott setting up the Michael Scott Paper Company and causing negative competitive to the business by marking down their prices and stealing clients. MSPC is eventually bought out by Dunder Mifflin but in a climate when there was a lot of downsizing, they had to absorb the three workers. David Wallace reveals that he knows to a large extent MSCP is not sustainable but to save face with the board accepts Michael’s terms. Dunder Mifflin is subsequently bought out by Sabre and that whole runner that comes with it including Nellie and Robert California. And then Wallace buys back Dunder Mifflin. That whole cycle is definitely not a healthy business model.

Several HR violations definitely cost the company. Several of the workers are problematic especially Dwight when he does the fire drill leading to a total wreck of the office space. There is another wreck when Michael proposes to Holly. Michael Kissing Oscar, Stanley’s break after the fire stint, Jim-Pam-Dwight pranks took a lot of productive hours. There are several examples but the most memorable is when Jim spends the entire day tracking Dwight stealing company time for his personal stuff like talking or yawning. Michael hitting Meredith with his car, Phyllis getting a longer vacation time for her honeymoon, Creed not necessarily doing anything but getting paid leading to quality assurance issues which hurt the company. Also, most of the Stamford branch workers leaving due to issues related to Michael Scott. If they had taken the company on as a collective they would absolutely have won. To top it off, is Toby not being an effective HR personnel.

All of this is not to say that there are no redeemable characteristics especially for the Scranton branch. Michael for a long time understood the “people business” and even though it is sometimes less believable, it is consistently the reason Scranton outperformed the other branches.
The end of Dunder Mifflin was obviously going to happen in an era where most people were going paperless and there was heavy competition from other big companies like Staples.

I love this show so much but it is sometimes hard seeing how the stuff that were happening helped the company in any way.
