One year on...
Third edition is a year old, and personally I just can't find any real joy in it.
I play Custodes primarily, and the long wait for a book following a frustrating PDF hasn't helped. But the book did nothing to improve things, and in many ways made things worse. It's often small, maddening stuff that would take no time to patch, but should've been caught in the first place.
Example? Valdor can't ride in a Grav Carrier with a regular custodes, because they're now six models min and the combined bulk is just too higher. Or the PDF hatchet job for the squads they killed because they couldn't be arsed to include weapon options in the kits (all min six, for weapon sets and models previously sold in fives). Or the death of an entire unit in favour of becoming a boring stat boost prime advantage. Or the super awkward list building. And so on.
Third is a mess. Not just for Custodes imho, but wider. It's full of gimmicks (yeah, you, "Challenge" phase) and 40K-isms (yeah, you, dull scoring system) and just feels like the Temu version of previous editions.
Maybe it's me. I still LOVE the models (although the 40K-isms are creeping in here too), the setting, the scope of the narrative and what the community does with it, but at it's core third edition is a messy, unfocused and largely ignored iteration that simply wasn't needed in my opinion, and none of the tactica books have improved the situation.
Not looking to stir, not trying to be a contrarian, but are there any players out there from first and second ed enjoying third more than previous editions?
Am I wrong?
EDIT; couple of clarifications that have come up a few times in the comments.
I'm not saying everything in third is bad, simply that when taken as a whole I've found it a disappointing and frustrating experience. It's full of things that are neat on paper, awful on the table, and things that are clearly broken and not fixed after a year.
Secondly by ignored I am not at all referring to the wider release schedule; love having new models, less thrilled about the constant stream of books that re-add things we had previously for a fee, but hey, so be it. But none of these releases actually fix anything; they layer on top.
The last FAQ update for the game was October last year.
Token case/cover
Hey all,
I've had my stuff for a little while. Wonderful stuff, I think the Archon team should feel quite proud of this one.
I have no real complaints, but one thing that does generally bug me is mis-aligned prints with cardboard components. It's not just SCTMG, it happens all the time with boardgames and other systems.
So I put together a very simple STL for a case/cover. Yes you will need to trim the cardboard, but, you'll end up with properly aligned and better protected tokens. Why trim? To maintain the 32mm token sizing.

Anyways, I hope some of you find it useful.
Sleeves for unit cards.
Just recommending these;
It's been well documented that the unit cards are a smidge too big for the card of sleeves people have been buying for other games. These are a good compromise.
For the other cards regular card sleeves and tarot cards fit fine.
Card sizes are;
63x87mm
70x120mm
107x161mm
Finding new scenarios to play
Heya, I've been playing mostly out of the rulebook, but wondered if anyone knew of any fun scenarios out in the community? Maybe from an event rules pack or campaign? Would just like to vary things up a little.
Thanks.
