Pitching velocity and lower body explosiveness

I have come across many articles on vertical jump and horizontal jump correlations to mound velocity. In your experience, how accurate are these in the real world and if accurate, which is more accurate (Vertical or Horizontal), and at what age should you start seeing it in action?

Thermal System Fault Detected

This will be the second time I will be taking my 2025 R1S Max Pack Performance in to Rivian for this issue. Last time I was told there was a leak in the coolant, but they could not find it. They replaced the coolant and sent me on my way. This was less than a month ago. Incidentally, few weeks prior my windshield washer fluid was leaking before that happened in which they said it was a hose that needed to be adjusted, adjusted it and also sent me on my way.

This time it is exactly the same issues. Windshield wiper fluid leaking and within 1.5 weeks I get this warning.

Does anyone know if these systems are tied together?

Change in charging

I have a 2025 Gen 2 Max Pack Dual Motor R1S. I have routinely taken it on 1000 mile journeys. Would often charge the car to 100% using Tesla Level 2 charger at home with A2Z adapter. Has worked like a charm.

Recently in the past 6 months when I try to charge to 90-100% (perhaps every 2 months) the charging takes forever (no longer overnight) and sometimes cuts off. At first I thought it was the adapter and got a new one and similar happens.

When I set it back to 70% it works fine, but again takes an inordinately long time to charge (11 mph vs 40+ mph in the past.

Any thoughts on why or if you have been seeing this on your vehicle? Any suggestions to help.

Tires

Spent close to $4k on all 4 tires on my Gen 2 R1S in January 20, 2026 and at 11k miles already need to replace the front tires? I am certainly not racing or doing anything crazy, however I wish I did given the need to replace the 2 front ones already. Anyone else had to replace tires this quick?

Wood bat versus non-Wood bat

My 9 y/o son has been using Axe bats primarily. Did well with it. However, he has gotten much stronger as during the season as we've been doing pull-ups and push-up while training with Camwood bat such that now his Axe -10 is like a wiffle ball bat in his hands. So this off season we switched to a pure wood bat to give it a shot (to get him to understand what it truly means to barrel the ball and to emphasize that he really needs to keep his eyes behind the barrel at contact due to small sweet spot; more realistic/authentic), and if it doesn't work out, go back to what he used but go with -8 vs -10.

Got a good one that was relatively cheap and he is hitting well with it off tee, with weighted balls, in cage via soft toss, and higher velocity with machine pitch (he is learning quickly by feel what it means to barrel the ball). Would like to continue on during fall, however wife is saying coach doesn't want any of the kids to use wood bats at this age. What did kids use before metal bats came into play? Unless he has stock in the companies producing composite metal bats I cannot understand why he would be so opposed. Why spend $200-$500 on a bat when he can use a cheaper wood bat even more effectively?

While I will ask him directly, I would like to read your thoughts as to why to not use a wood bat. Thank you in advance.

Moving to analytics to drive team decision in 9U and beyond.

Son's current travel team is moving to a whole new model driven by analytics. The analytics are going to be driven by former MLB player who is now in charge of charge of analytics for MLB team, so aiming to mirror what the men are about to undergo. There will likely be no movement upward should kid do well; likely long-term cohorts by design. There will be less tournaments in the fall and "normal" amount in Spring. The drive is to lessen cumulative injury buildup that show up in the early teens, long-term development well into early adulthood, and higher quality of play/competition. The initial commitment will be for a full year and possibly more as the analytics will drive the decisions. Initial cost will be close to $5K over 10 months. This will be starting in 9U. As you can imagine the parents were taken aback by not only the cost that increased by almost $1000, but also by the fact of having less tournaments, and the focus on analytics. I think we are about to lose a lot of folks for a variety of reason, but none more so than the cost:benefit considering many have several kids that play. Would love to read your constructive thoughts.

UPDATE: Truly appreciate the comments. Several parents plan to drop out. The metrics are going to be used for the 3rd day of practice (1st day = infield/outfield, 2nd day = batting cage +/- bullpen session) and are assessments with strength/conditioning/mobility to build up the child over the years so that they can peak at projection assessments for college and/or beyond should they want to go that far AND prevent injuries that build up starting from 9U and show up at 12-15. The assessments (analytics) are the following: mobility, stability, speed, strength/power assessments as well as "Scouting grades" of offense (bat-to ball, power, swing decisions, base running, sprint speed), defense/pitching (fielding, arm strength, arm accuracy, command), and playing maturity (game awareness, focus/effort). These assessment are then used to do more focus player-specific improvements with follow-up assessments to see growth or no growth with kind of a red/yellow/green layout on paper for parents/player/coach. Please continue on with the comments. TY in advance.
