PNW Hikers: Are you caring a spare tire?

Currently I have a MY AWD and have an R2 on order.

I've gotten two flats with the model Y getting to trail heads and back. Both times it's kind of ruined our day as it took all day to get a tow.

WRT to the Rivian, are the factory tires good enough to handle our forest roads? Who that lives here carries a spare? Have you had to use it?

Apple Music vs. Tidal for Rivian R1S Gen 1 Sound System?

I know i'm thinking too much about it, but was just curious if anyone had a clear preference after using both!

Has anyone noticed a clear difference in using Apple Music vs. Tidal on the R1S sound system? I have a 2023 R1s Adventure, Quad... so I think that's the Elevation sound system. I use Apple Music daily on my phone, so i've been using that (Native Rivian Apple Music app, not bluetooth) with sound check off, spatial audio and dolby atmos on, but I read somewhere that Tidal has better hi-res / lossless audio in the native Rivian app with Max quality turned on. Not sure which is better especially with the latest software update adding the toggle for Apple Music AAC...

In my experience trying both on the same songs, the bass and depth of songs sound clearer on Tidal, but the vocal presence sounds better on Apple Music.

Updates for Getting Payment on the Rivian $250 million Settlement

Hey guys, if you missed it, Rivian settled $250 million with investors over claims that it failed to disclose the true cost of producing its vehicles. And, I just found out that they’re accepting claims even though the deadline has passed.

Quick recap: In 2022, Rivian was accused of misleading investors about its vehicle pricing and production costs. In short, the company promoted its R1T pickup and R1S SUV as competitively priced electric vehicles, but investors later alleged that Rivian was losing substantial amounts of money on each vehicle sold and failed to clearly disclose how severe the cost gap was. As supply-chain issues and material costs increased, Rivian announced major price hikes that sparked customer backlash and raised concerns about the company’s financial outlook.

Now, the good news is that the company agreed to settle $250 million with them, and even though the deadline has passed recently, they’re accepting late claims.

So, if you invested in $RIVN when all of this happened, you can still check the details and file your claim here.

Anyway, has anyone here invested in $RIVN at that time? How much were your losses, if so?

Built in December 25, Leased July 26

Sharing for curiosity to others, was surprised to see vehicle sat in Rivian inventory for so long - was offered with 3K discount from inventory w/ no issue records confirmed by guide + no miles on odometer; brand new.

Car was built in December 2025 and I leased through online available inventory as a new vehicle w/ Rivian in July 2026.

Vehicle doesn’t have MagSafe charger pad since it was built end of 25 and has combo darkout package + sport bright wheels (was still a combo choice in 25).

Vehicle is amazing - only sharing because a car in inventory for 6 months is… interesting.

Autonomy+ front camera blocked - keeps disconnecting Autonomy

Gen2 2026 Tri motor Max- I’m on the autonomy + plan and up until recently it has been flawless. Coincident with the latest software update - I’ve had several instances of autonomy disconnecting automatically stating “ front camera obscured or blocked”. The camera is free and clear - cleaned and observed to be obstruction free? I’ve done a soft reset - still not resolved? Any similar issues and fixes - hoping to avoid the service center

For those of you that went from a gen2 dual to a gen2 quad, was it worth it?

The title says it all. Was that extra $$ worth the upgrade in your opinion?

Anyone know what this is?

It’s under the car and the passenger side. Closer to the front row. We took it for service and then saw this hanging down.

R1S vs EX90

I’m really struggling as there’s no great options for what I’m looking for.

I love the R1S and I’m planning to take my son (4) on many camping and fishing trips. 99% of the time will be boring commutes to school and the occasional trip with our dog however. My wife wants a plushy ride. We have an XC60 today and our lease is up in Nov.

EX90 Pros
-whisper quiet
-amazing suspension
-amazing audio

EX90 Cons
-horrible software
-limited inventory
-no camp mode

R1S Pros
-amazing software (camp mode!)
-space everywhere
-way more inventory/customization

R1S Cons
-plastic seats
-bad audio

Seems like reliability is an issue between both. Anybody struggle between the two options?

Rivian Gear Guard Gary Video on R1S

Hey everyone. My 4 year old and 2 year old love the Gary gear guard video that is under the gear guard section on my R1S. Unfortunately, My son hit a few buttons and deleted it. Now they are upset and want it back lol. I know this is stupid, but anyone know how to put it back on the Rivian?

2023 Quad used 26k miles

I test drove and fell in love. I think I am comfortable with gen 1 driver assist features and don't feel like I will be missing out on gen 2 autonomy. I'm coming from a 2021 Toyota Venza and everything about the Rivian feels like a massive upgrade.

This specific R1S has 25 months and 34k miles left on the manufacturers warranty. I test drove and did not hear any rattles or shakes. I raised and lowered the car with the air suspension and had no issues.

The only thing that was weird was it wouldn't let me get past the google maps terms and agreement and the sales rep said he had to do a reset to make that work? Maybe its because there is not owner assigned while its at the dealership

My main hold up and worry is the potential suspension issues and if I can find xcare extended warranty that will to cover it after the 25 months is up on the manufacturers warranty.

Should I go for it... or pay up and potentially lease a 2026/27 for peace of mind?

Customer Service - zero

I am scheduled to pick up my R1S next week but I need the invoice modified so I can present it to my credit union so they can cut a check. Also, for no reason at all they added $1600 to my invoice for a transfer fee so "I could get my car sooner" but I didn't want it sooner and I did not authorize the transfer. They sent me a modified invoice with that charge saying your contract has been modified, please sign. I asked several times - what did you modify but no answer. I have left messages for them to call me - nothing. My "guide" disappeared and I can get no help from her. God, I hope their maintenance service is not this bad.

SiriusXM real or fake?

I lost service while listening to SiriusXM today while in broad daylight with no overhead coverage of any kind. It seemed like what I was experiencing was a cellular loss, which leads me to this:

Does the R1S, specifically my 22 LE, have actual satellite radio or does it just have the app via cellular?

2024 Rivian R1S Adventure Quad Motor AWD $64,494 22,822 miles

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a used r1s and then adding rivian care or xcare once the warranty runs out. My hold ups are worries about lag in the infotainment system and wondering if there are any other potential frustrations I should watch out for.

I've been strongly considered leasing a 2026 dual motor large battery for the peace of mind knowing Rivian will be handling any potential issues and getting in the newest and best tech. I would consider buying after the lease is up with residual value being at $51k after 3 years.

This used R1S just popped up and seems like a solid deal and has me reconsidering my strategy. Any and all advice is welcome.

Lease Now or Wait til September

Had a 2026 Tesla Model Y that was unfortunately totaled recently, and have decided that an R1S is what I will likely buy next. I know there is no way to really tell, but the current lease deals are pretty terrible, and I am considering waiting until September to place an order.

Historically, has there been better offers in September, or is this illogical? I am traveling for 3 weeks at the end of the month, so don't really need a car until mid-September anyway.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I think I finally found THE ONE: my best Gen 1 Rivian R1S Elevation EQ settings (Apple Music + Dolby Atmos)

I think I finally found THE ONE.

After way too many hours comparing Rivian EQ recommendations and switching settings mid-song, this is the setup I keep returning to in my 2023 Gen 1 R1S with the Elevation sound system.

Quick version: This is a subjective "fun" Rivian EQ, not a flat or reference calibration. Designed for physical bass, close and clearly intelligible vocals, audible harmonies, full instrumentation, and an enveloping soundstage without muddying dense songs or making cymbals painfully sharp. Copy the attached screenshot for the exact curve.

My setup, tested August 2026:

2023 Gen 1 Rivian R1S with Elevation audio

Native Apple Music

Spatial Audio: On for Dolby Atmos tracks

Higher-quality stereo over cellular: On, playback reports High Quality AAC over the in-vehicle network

Sound Check: Off

Rivian 3D Surround Sound: On, not Enhanced

Dynamic Sound Adjustment: Low

Fade and balance centered left-to-right and slightly forward, placing the acoustic center closer to the driver's head

EQ: THE ONE, shown in the attached photo

Screenshot is the authority here. Rivian doesn't display numeric EQ values, so I'm not inventing dB measurements from slider positions.

Some measurement-based Rivian EQ guides are excellent. They solve a different problem though, neutrality and faithful reproduction. I wanted the Gen 1 R1S Elevation sound system to feel bigger, louder, more immediate, and more enjoyable, especially with pop, R&B, hip-hop, and layered Dolby Atmos mixes.

Biggest breakthrough was 250 Hz. An earlier version had slightly more energy there. Moving it down one small drag preserved the weight and perceived loudness but removed a subtle veil from dense vocals.

Rest of the curve is deliberate. 63 and 125 Hz stay high for sub-bass and physical impact. Enough 500 Hz keeps voices and instruments from becoming thin. 1 to 2 kHz region keeps lead vocals close and makes backing vocals and harmonies easier to follow. I tested lowering 4 kHz by one notch, but it produced essentially no useful improvement, so I restored it for articulation and attack. Eight kHz is comparatively restrained because too much made hi-hats and cymbals harsh. Sixteen kHz adds air without making everything brittle.

Switch to this curve in the middle of a chorus and the singer moves closer, harmonies become easier to separate, presentation feels louder and more enveloping, and bass becomes physical without covering the vocal. That's what I wanted from the best Rivian R1S EQ settings, not a graph-perfect response.

Atmos mixes vary dramatically though. I wouldn't rebuild the whole EQ because one backing vocal disappears in one particular mix. Rivian updates change the system too, so include your software version when comparing results.

Spotify or stereo note: I built THE ONE around native Apple Music with Dolby Atmos, but it remains my starting point for native Spotify. Set Spotify quality to Very High, then A/B 3D Surround Off versus On. Keep On if you prefer the extra width and fullness, try Off if vocals sound hollow, phasey, distant, or reverberant. Evidence is too mixed to claim Spotify needs one specific alternate EQ curve, and avoid Enhanced initially.

If you test it, share your model year, generation, audio system, software version, source, Atmos status, and test song. Those variables matter.
