How can I diversify my taxable portfolio while keeping a tech and growth tilt?
I’m 30 and investing for the long term. I’m intentionally leaning toward technology and growth because I believe in their potential, so I don’t want to remove that tilt completely. I’d like to add diversification, especially international stocks, and get opinions on whether my current mix is too concentrated.
As of October 7, my portfolio is about $24,166:
FXAIX: $18,653 — 77.2%
SCHG: $3,893 — 16.1%
FSCSX: $1,620 — 6.7%
FTIHX: I don’t own this yet.
I’m considering adding FTIHX for international exposure. One hypothetical target I’m considering is:
FXAIX: 70% — about $16,916
FTIHX: 20% — about $4,833
SCHG: 7% — about $1,692
FSCSX: 3% — about $725
These dollar amounts show what each holding would be if I adjusted my current $24,166 portfolio to match those percentages. They are not my current balances, and I don’t currently have the $4,833 in FTIHX.
Does this target make sense for someone who wants to keep a tech and growth tilt while adding international diversification? Would you suggest different percentages or a simpler mix?
This is a taxable account, so I’m also unsure how to make the change. Would you sell some of my current holdings to rebalance, or keep them and direct future contributions toward FTIHX? I’m open to feedback on whether I should reduce or sell SCHG or FSCSX, but I’d like to consider the tax impact before selling.
