Important

According to the CBSE circular issued on February 9, 2026, the evaluation of Class 12 answer scripts through the OSM (On Screen Marking) system was scheduled to begin from February 15, 2026. Subsequently, one-day mock training sessions were also conducted for teachers of CBSE schools.

However, it appears to be a major shortcoming that neither students nor parents were clearly informed in advance about this new evaluation system. The answer sheets are scanned and uploaded into the system directly from the examination centres, but there is no clarity regarding how this scanning process is carried out or how its quality is ensured. Parents and students are especially concerned about whether pencil drawings, equations, diagrams, and scientific illustrations are being clearly visible in the scanned copies.

In reality, this system seems to have adversely affected students who depend heavily on handwritten presentation. For instance, a student who scored 95 marks in English during the school model examination received significantly lower marks than expected in the board examination. Similarly, students who consistently secured high marks in Science subjects failed to obtain full A1 grades, raising concerns about possible errors in the evaluation process. Moreover, if one compares the 2025 and 2026 Class 12 results of any CBSE school, or compares a student's Class 10 marks with their Class 12 marks, the shortcomings of the OSM (On Screen Marking) system become evident. The results of several students do not appear to align with their consistent academic performance.

Likewise, it is a matter of serious concern that a student who scored above 97 percentile in the KEAM examination did not even receive A1 grades in PCM subjects.

Most teachers handling Senior Secondary evaluation are women teachers. Under the current system, they are required to evaluate around 16 answer scripts per subject, each containing nearly 20 or more pages, within the working hours of 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Along with awarding marks, they are also expected to enter comments for each answer. Such an excessive workload may negatively affect the quality and accuracy of

evaluation.

Additionally, the fees charged for revaluation procedures impose an extra financial burden on students and parents:

Rechecking: 500 per subject

Photocopy of answer sheet: ₹700 per subject

₹100 per question separately. This fee structure gives the impression that students are being charged excessively.

Therefore, we request that, similar to the system followed in examinations like KEAM, scanned copies of evaluated answer scripts should be made available free of cost to every student through DigiLocker. Students and parents should be able to review their answer papers without paying additional fees. This would ensure greater transparency in the evaluation process and provide fairness to students.

We sincerely request CBSE to adopt a more transparent and accountable approach in matters that significantly impact the future of students

(I didn't wrote it myself but saw this comment on yt from someone named diyatreesajosy, and I completely agree with that as scanned copies should be free to access, we wrote and filled it also this time for OSM copies were scanned so why not just send them to students to there digilocker account. Now they don't even have to scan them for the first time as it's already scanned before so no new effort needed)
