Legacy of Darkness is finally real!

Well, the world has been watching this one patiently for a while. But here it is. Legacy of Darkness is finally woven!! 🤘

I got the first production pictures today and I could not be happier with how it came out. The scarlet hits exactly the way I hoped it would, and the black and grey have way more depth in the actual wool than the digital renders ever showed.

For anyone who missed some of the earlier discussion, the 70-thread black field references Black Sabbath’s 1970 debut and the 13-thread scarlet bars represent Ozzy’s 13 solo studio albums.

One of my favorite descriptions came from a weaver who saw the design and said the way the black and grey move in and out through the sett reminded her of the bass in heavy metal. I loved that because so much of what I was trying to capture was the feeling of the music, not just colors associated with Ozzy or Sabbath. Seeing it in actual wool, I think that comes through even more.

You guys have watched this thing develop for months. Now it’s real cloth. 🔥🤘

Legacy of Darkness is finally woven

I designed this tartan as a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, and the darker visual language around that music.

A little of the symbolism is built directly into the sett: the 70-thread black field references Black Sabbath’s 1970 debut, while the 13-thread scarlet bars represent Ozzy’s 13 solo studio albums. Scarlet was chosen as the dominant accent because it gives the tartan the aggressive, high-contrast feel I wanted against the black and charcoal.

The finished cloth came back better than I hoped. The scarlet is aggressive, the black and grey have a ton of depth, and seeing it woven is completely different from looking at the digital design.

The first kilts are scheduled for early September. 🤘

[For Sale] Legacy of Darkness bat pin—designed for future USA Kilts scally caps

I designed Legacy of Darkness, a registered heavy-metal tribute tartan currently offered through USA Kilts in 13-ounce House of Edgar wool.

This enamel pin was created specifically as the finishing piece for future Legacy of Darkness scally caps made from the tartan. I’m releasing the pins separately as well for battle vests, jackets, hats, kilt bags, and collectors.

It has dual posts, a custom Ravenbriar Tartans back stamp, and comes mounted on a backing card featuring the actual tartan.

The tartan can be seen on USA Kilts here: LEGACY OF DARKNESS TARTAN

Pins are $15 plus a couple bucks for shipping. Will discount for multiple

Available through Etsy or eBay, or message me directly to purchase. Direct orders can be invoiced through PayPal Goods & Services.

My first pin!

I designed this one to go with future Scally caps made from my Blóðlogi tartan. The bind-rune pulls from symbols tied to honor, knowledge, and power. But most importantly, it’s badass!

I think I accidentally made a Sith tartan

I designed this tartan with a lot of Ozzy/heavy metal influence behind it. Dark charcoal, black, scarlet red, dramatic contrast… that whole darker stage-energy direction.

Then I posted it in a kilt group this week and the comments immediately turned into:
“Darth Maul tartan”
“Sith colors”
“lightsaber red”
“just in time for Maul”

Now with the new Maul: Shadow Lord stuff dropping, I honestly can’t unsee it either 😂

So now I’m curious… if Star Wars actually had tartans tied to characters or factions, what would they look like?

I’ve been working on a pin to accompany my recently woven tartan (Blóðlogi) should be made into a Scally-style cap.

I went through a bunch of ideas, but I keep coming back to just using the rune as the pin. Nothing else.

The idea is to keep it simple so it actually works with patterned wool and doesn’t look like it’s fighting the fabric.

It would be around 1” and cast in metal, not enamel.

The rune itself is something I developed for the project and it’s not a historical one. It’s basically a personal creative mark tied to the tartan.

I threw the tartan in here for context so you can see what it would sit on.

Main things I’m trying to figure out:
- Does this feel too plain or is simple the right move here?
- Does it read clean enough at small size?
- Would you actually wear something like this on a cap?

I’m not trying to crank out a bunch of pins, just get one that actually makes sense with the hat.

Appreciate any honest feedback.
