Secret Silent Hill ARG at PAX West

Hey everybody!

I recently went to PAX West and Konami did a Silent Hill ARG so I thought I would share it here.

First, the Silent Hill booth was advertised as a "fan experience" so we went there and noticed it was a phone booth you stand in for a couple minutes after waiting in line for like 30+ minutes. Because it was so busy we didnt do it. Because like... it's not a demo.

So we do go to the panel and they show an exclusive clip.

It's got this guy talking to the main character on his portable CRT. He seems to be the main contact for the protagonist in the game.

So we come back today and we do stand in line after being told there is something for pre-ordering the game and proving it to the staff.

We stand in the line and the booth has this series of numbers you can call going to voicemails to places in the game's in-universe Scottish Town and then the last number you can do calls a recording of the guy shown in the clip from the panel disclosing a bunch of vague information. They gave us medical bands for the protagonist to wear and a fake protest brick with the nurse character Clara's name written on it.

We get done and I show them my pre-order and it ends up being a floppy disk with a hidden USB drive.

They then subtly ask us to take a picture in front of this big town monument sculpture at the booth that has a bunch of protest signs on it. They encourage us to use the signs for the pictures.

(This was all stuff in the most recent trailer!)

So we are basically standing around as fake in-universe protesters.

Later on we come back to our hotel room and plug in the USB drive and it has an .exe on it.

We boot the exe and it takes us to an old msdos OS for an email system where we can read through emails.

We figured out that the emails (which seem to be from the same man from the phone) have a coded message in it and become increasingly erratic and bordering on violent while talking about protests.

Because the protest needs to happen for some reason.

We figured out the letters we identified are an anagram and put it into a password system and it unlocked a new email with a phone number.

It had a limited amount of entries too before it locked us out so there was some risk too.

We call the phone number and its the guy again! He tells us a bunch more increasingly creepy information and then tells us to text him.

So we do and now he is a text contact and it seems he is going to keep texting us secret information leading up to the release later this month.

You can call CHAPMAN here... if you dare:

The Fallen Aces Episode 2 Experience

Drive a car really fast. Drive a car so fast you run over 30 men and crash through the stained glass window of a church.

Wake up drunk in a homeless camp. Follow Rorschach from Watchmen out into the city and get beat up by gangsters on the way. Find a shady fellow selling goods on the border. Can't afford anything.

Sad.

Stumble further into the city. Try to break into a pharmacy to patch yourself up. Doesn't work.

Sad.

Go around the alley and find a key to the pharmacy mistakenly lost in a sewer drain. Sneak in the back. Eat 20 pieces of candy to make yourself feel better.

Find some dangerous recalled medication and take it with you. Stroll down the street. Don't be paying attention because its Sunday and you're very tired from the work week.

Accidentally bump into some goons robbing a bank. Panic. They panic too. Shoot them. They shoot you too. Panic more and chug the recalled medicine. It makes you angry. More angry than you've ever been in your life. Start punching everyone. But you're just not angry enough and start bleeding out.

Try to reload the save. Wait this was the previous save why am I still in the Fight?

Try to reload the save. Wait this was the previous save why am I still in the Fight?

Realize the game is saving over and over in the middle of the fight each time you reload.

Fuck it. Start running away with no life. Dodge every bullet. Bump into a police officer. Now you're wanted by the police. Angry. Punch a police man. Now you're extra wanted.

Flee to the homeless camp and wait it out until things cool down.

Wander back into the city. A field of bloody bodies leads from the camp back to the bank. Decide you need more firepower before going back to the bank robbers.

Stop by a nearby building by kicking open the door. Find a safe. Find a picture of circled teeth on the wall. Google the teeth numbers and plug them into the safe. Speed juice in the safe. Drink it. Become speedy. Pick up the dentist's power drill and speed over to the bank. Speed the power drill through 6 men's skulls.

Decide you have been through a lot. Decide that means you deserve the money from the bank.

Continue the bank robbery yourself. Get lots of money. Go back the shady man and buy everything you need to feel safe. Like a big machine gun.

Kill everyone in town with the machine gun.

Happy.

Good game.

Am I Taking Crazy Pills? (LMDF)

I've been playing a lot of Leon Must Die Forever for the past two days.

While I was initially off put by the high health of the enemies and the inability to properly make a build, this mode has really hooked me after sinking some time into it.

Some things I'm learned:

  1. Route planning is important. You are guaranteed some items like weapon chests along certain paths which is not something you'll be able to do until playing several times through.

  2. Build craft is on fly and should be changed mid-route. The way you can compensate for the randomization of weapons is by re-speccing your modifiers into what you have. You do this initially at the beginning of a run, but should oftentimes start rejiggering your configuration by the halfway point. Sometimes you can hold out for the right weapon if you have a valuable collection of modifiers, but this is risky.

  3. Reroll and level up modifiers - given the amount of blood you will earn on a particular run you should be rerolling or leveling up your modifiers to get a more favorable pull in the favor of the build you either have at the beginning or decide on at the midway points.

  4. The extra ranks loadouts and unlocks provide significant improvements for a run's gameplay variety and also reaching a higher dps skill ceiling in order to overcome the increasing challenge. This was not apparent to me initially.

From learning more after playing for 4-5 hours I've found the mode much more manageable and enjoyable to burst through.

I'd say my biggest issue is a common one- the lack of new maps/enemies.

I was hoping to provide some tips for those who are struggling and perhaps vent my confusion at the significant amount of complaining about this free mode. This personal disconnect probably also rhymes with my enjoyment of the Leon sections in the story being opposite from many who found them to be significantly weaker than Grace's.

I found this especially bizarre considering that Mercanaries and Raid are better, they are also largely fighting the same enemies in the same spaces.

Are you enjoying LMDF? Do you wish it was just Mercenaries?
