Platinum insurance experience

Sharing my experience with using Amex Platinum insurance so far - 25% seamless, 25% approved but needed appeal, 50% of the time not great.

Extended warranty seems to be great. I had a iRobot robot vacuum, where a part broke. After talking to iRobot, I purchased a replacement part, which was reimbursed by Amex. Later, I found out it was the wrong part and the company has actually stopped making parts for this particular robot. Reached out to Amex again, with emails from iRobot explaining the issue, and Amex quickly reimbursed the remaining amount that I had paid for the vacuum. Been a seamless experience, and really how it should be!

I had tried using purchase protection one time in the past for a luggage item that broke after one use, but that was denied. I can’t recall the details, but it may have been that I didn’t submit all the right things.

On the other hand, travel insurance has been worthless. American Airlines cancelled my flight and rebooked the next day. AA refused to pay for all the things (a whole different issue) Amex initially denied the claim because the email from AA didn’t say exactly the words that they wanted, even though it said the flight was cancelled. Finally, I appealed with a new letter from AA which had the exact words that Amex has in their policy, and they approved most of it. Still didn’t approve one meal citing it was at the destination (when it was not)

Another time, when using travel insurance for changing flight due to a medical reason, Amex has continued to deny it despite multiple appeals, clearly without reading everything that I have submitted. And the use case is just for the airline “change fee” and not even the whole amount paid. It has been a frustrating experience and I have given up because it keeps going in circles, and not worth the time.

Overall, purchase protection >>> travel insurance, at least for me so far

Help with choosing

I have always had an iRobot before this. But recently my J7+ combo broke its cleaning head module, and turns out the company has stopped making that part. So I am now in the market for a new robot vacuum.

My head is spinning all the reviews, and can’t decide what would be best for my case use?

Hardwood floors mostly with some carpet. No pets or kids. But long hair that sheds. No huge messes generally, but dust adds up. About 2000 ft house. Would want vacuum & mop.

Help with deciding what would be the best options in my use case?

Based on experience and everything I have read, definitely not an iRobot this time. For iRobot, phone support was great, but very disappointed in after market service by the company (my robot is less than 2 years old!)

ETA: Would prefer one that doesn’t require its own proprietary solution. Additionally a smaller water tank is a plus as I don’t use the vacuum as often, and don’t want water just sitting there for long periods. Thank you!

ETA 2: Ordered Dreame X40 as it was the same price (slightly cheaper) than L40 Gen 2. Looked into Roborock Qervo Curve as the other option, but eventually went with Dreame. Can update here once I have used it
