Please do not make the same cheap laptop mistake I did as a freshman

So when I started college I bought a random 550 dollar laptop thinking it would be plenty for basic classes. Boy was I wrong, by second semester i was running matlab zoom like twenty chrome tabs and onenote all at the same time and the thing was chugging so bad.

If I could give any advice to incoming freshmen just spend a bit more on a better cpu and a huge battery. Library and dorm outlets are always taken or broken and having your laptop die mid lecture sucks.

Looking back I probably should’ve just gone with something more solid from the start like a Thinkpad, or even a lightweight performance laptop like a Zenbook. Just something that can actually handle sustained workloads without throttling into oblivion.

I was looking around for upgrades recently and saw that Geekbook M16 that is dropping soon. It is like 800 bucks for an u9 which is honestly a wild price point for that chip and it has a massive 99.9wh battery so you wouldn't even need to pack a charger for classes. Maybe see if they have a student discount or coupon code going on. Just do your research and dont cheap out on specs like i did lol.

Starting to run 30 min a day, what earbud features should I look for?

I've been trying to get into a basic fitness routine, like 30 minutes of running a day. But my fitness baseline is pretty much zero, so every run I'm just suffering through wondering why half an hour feels so long. People say putting on music helps you find a rhythm, so I want to try that. Problem is, my current options are wired earpods and a wireless over-ear headphone, and neither feels great for running. What features should I be looking for in earbuds as a beginner runner?

My review on Geekom A7 Max

So I bought the Geekom a7 max like 2m ago. Out of the box though I was kinda underwhelmed tbh. Heavy Premiere project was lagging a bit, I felt I needed to add a second ram. But man you know the price. I think that's also the reason one ram stick in the standard package. But I bought one anyway, the performance improved significantly. I even saw someone on YouTube test installing second ram increased graphics benchmark scores by 70%.

So if anyone is planning to grab one of these during a sale rn, I still recommend setting aside a budget for a second ram. By the way, opening it up is a little annoying.

The ports and SD card reader were the main reason I bought it, at this size and price point, it’s pretty attractive. It has dual USB 4.0 ports, dual 2.5GbE ports, and a full-size SD card reader. It's perfect for someone like me who needs to read camera SD cards. I also really dig the metal chassis because it looks super clean and cool.

If anyone happens to be looking at Geekom minipc I would still recommend going with this one.

My Uber driver was speaking Spanish to his friend about how quiet I was. I told him I was just tired.

I was coming home from a really long shift at work and I was exhausted and I just wanted to get home and sleep so I called an Uber and got in the back seat and just closed my eyes.

The driver was on the phone with someone and he was speaking Spanish so I could hear everything because I took Spanish for like three years in high school and I still understand most of it.

He was telling his friend "este pasajero esta muy callado. no ha dicho ni una palabra. a veces es un poco incomodo cuando no dicen nada pero bueno."

His friend said something back but I could not hear it.

The driver laughed and said "si. parece que va a dormirse. ojala no se duerma y se pase su parada."

I was so tired but I also did not want him to think I was being rude so I opened my eyes and said in Spanish "no estoy siendo grosero. solo estoy cansado. trabaje todo el dia."

He looked in his rearview mirror with his eyes wide and said "oh! hablas español?"

I said "un poco. entiendo mas de lo que hablo."

He laughed and said "pense que eras un pasajero misterioso. no sabia que me entendias."

I said "no te preocupes. solo quiero llegar a casa y dormir."

He said "te llevo rapido. descansa."

I closed my eyes again and he turned down the music and did not talk on the phone for the rest of the ride.

When we got to my place he said "que descanses. y perdon por hablar de ti."

I said "no hay problema. gracias por el viaje."

He smiled and I went inside and slept for like ten hours.

Nothing dramatic happened. Just a normal interaction with a nice driver.
