Please do not make the same cheap laptop mistake I did as a freshman
So when I started college I bought a random 550 dollar laptop thinking it would be plenty for basic classes. Boy was I wrong, by second semester i was running matlab zoom like twenty chrome tabs and onenote all at the same time and the thing was chugging so bad.
If I could give any advice to incoming freshmen just spend a bit more on a better cpu and a huge battery. Library and dorm outlets are always taken or broken and having your laptop die mid lecture sucks.
Looking back I probably should’ve just gone with something more solid from the start like a Thinkpad, or even a lightweight performance laptop like a Zenbook. Just something that can actually handle sustained workloads without throttling into oblivion.
I was looking around for upgrades recently and saw that Geekbook M16 that is dropping soon. It is like 800 bucks for an u9 which is honestly a wild price point for that chip and it has a massive 99.9wh battery so you wouldn't even need to pack a charger for classes. Maybe see if they have a student discount or coupon code going on. Just do your research and dont cheap out on specs like i did lol.
