James was standing on the opposite direction as of tom . How come he flipped and got buried across the wall against him?

As we can see while James was facing tom he was standing on opposite of wall that was behind tom but here on this panel he is buried in the wall while facing the other direction. He should have been slammed on the face on the tom'direction or he should have been buried on his back behind himself
