

Best method to animate a simple cartoon mouth like this?
Imagine the mouth as a tube or long cylinder with capped ends. Is there a method where you could have that kind of tube-mouth animation style but with a single continuous shape that breaks/recombines? The picture i drew literally depicts exactly what i'm trying to do--a tube shape mouth that can turn into a torus type shape, at the very least. The second picture i included depicts the STYLE i'm going for, but such a rig can't do what i want.
I tried different things like skin modifiers on bezier curves but you can't exactly combine and split parts of a bezier curve shapekey-style.
I'm thinking maybe geometry nodes? What kind of tool am i gonna be using here? Any guidance would be appreciated!
