Looking for PC buying advice
Hi,
I'm thinking about taking the plunge and investing in a monster PC primarily for gaming, specifically MSFS2024 and Star Citizen.
I haven't built a PC since 2006 so I am very much out of the loop.
I know that ram prices have pushed costs up but I'm prepared to swallow the extra costs and I think I would prefer to buy a pre-built rig to avoid the hassle and benefit from a warranty.
I think I would go for an AMD processor as I've used them before and I understand that the games I want to play will benefit from the larger L3 cache.
I would want 64GB of fast ram.
I'm probably going to go for a 5090 graphics card.
I want to buy one of those ultra-wide monitors and in time will hook up my PSVR2 headset and maybe buy a dedicated PC headset.
I don't want a fancy case with glass panels and RGB lighting.
I'm planning on building a built in desk area using kitchen base units without their 150mm legs and instead use 15mm fillers to bring the desk height down to a normal seating height and so the doors clear the carpet.
Would it be possible to house the PC in a 500mm wide x 720mm high x 570mm deep base unit. Possibly adding 3 fans to draw air in from the base and 3 fans to exhaust air out the back? Could these fans run off fan power connectors on the motherboard so they turn on/off with the PC.
Budget wise, I'm prepared to go up to £5k for the PC but any savings would be welcome.
Looking for recommendations and advice.
Thanks 👍
