I’ve recently found a wonderful psychiatrist specializing in ADHD and I’ve finally been diagnosed and receiving medication about 2 months ago.
We’ve decided to take the non-stimulant route because one, I have bipolar and there’s a chance for a manic episode because of stimulants and two, I like the idea of having the medication work 24/7.
We tried strattera for the first month but it gave me severe constipation which I couldn’t see myself sticking it out. So we went with Guanfacine. I question how much it’s improved my cognition, it hasn’t been a game changer yet. I guess I can say it’s slightly improved anxiety episodes, a bit of restlessness, focus, and my mind thinking of a billion thoughts constantly. Again hasn’t been drastic.
Are there any of you folks that have seen great success with non-stims. The main things I want to improve are focus, restlessness, executive function, and being fully present without so many thoughts going a million different ways all the time.
I’m coming for 4 weeks onto Guanfacine now. How long did it take to see impactful results? What effects did you see?
