Fallow Field
Why ever did I hope that we might be?
Your sweet smile, those rosy buds taunt I,
Who could ne'er be granted such charity
To again catch your loving, loveless eye
And how shall I, drugged with dazzled desire,
Quell this foolish, fervent flame within me,
When my scouts and spies, to which I deny,
Appraise no affection abides at heart.
How that saintly spir't fires its bolt through, he,
Who's beguiled by beauty that won't beguile!
I know you will not have my hung'ring heart,
So I shan't crave your hand without love too,
So let my heart lose the longing waywárd,
Or bless me with confiding 'I love you'.
Writers note: For context, I've written this as a response to rejection and my inability to get over it. I've written it in Iambic Pentameter and a modified Sonnet form to resemble the feeling of love however I've changed a few things like the rhyme scheme for example to better fit the mood for unrequited love. The rhyme scheme by the way is: ABABCABCDBCDCD, which creates a clean flow from the begging of AB to the acceptance of CD.
