Neurofibromatosis type 1 before and after surgery
The condition behind photos like this one is almost always neurofibromatosis type 1, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow along nerve tissue anywhere in the body. In its plexiform form, the tumors can spread across the face and neck in thick, drooping masses that keep growing for years, sometimes decades, if left untreated. It’s caused by a mutation in a gene called neurofibromin, and while a lot of cases run in families, roughly a third to half show up from a spontaneous mutation with no family history at all.
Cases this severe are rare but not isolated. There’s a Utah man named Maurice Simpson whose facial tumor went untouched for 17 years before doctors finally removed it in a 13-hour surgery, and cases out of Portugal, China, and Burkina Faso involving tumors weighing anywhere from several pounds up to over 20 kilograms once excised.

The river that boils
What if I tell you there is a river that gets heated enough to cook you?
This might sound like something from a fantasy film, but there is actually a river like that in the Amazon rainforest of Peru called Shanay-timpishka, which translates to “boiled by the heat of the sun.”
It is around 4 miles long, and the water temperature can reach around 90°C, making it hot enough to cause serious burns and even kill small animals.
The strange part is that there are no active volcanoes nearby, so where is all this heat coming from?
Scientists believe the water comes from deep below the Earth's surface, where it gets heated by geothermal energy before rising back to the surface.
And the river isn't boiling everywhere. Some parts are extremely hot while others are much cooler.
Local people have known about the river for generations, but it only gained wider scientific attention after researchers began studying it in 2011.
Imagine walking through the Amazon, tired and thirsty, and suddenly finding a beautiful river. You run towards it thinking you've finally found some cool water. Then you touch the water.
24F | F4A | Up for a late night talk?
It's monday so work = graveyard shift for me. Anyone up for late night talks? Any topic is fine with me just keep it sfw.
A bit about me and my interests: a proud nerd, gamer and neurodivergent. I also love to read and right now I'm trying out audiobooks and getting back to digital art.
24 [F4A] Let's be friends
Hi I'm looking for friends preferably night owls that I can talk with while I'm working. I work better kasi multitasking and para naman di mabored and antukin.
Facts about me:
- I love tech and is a gamer (cozy and chill games lang tho, i don't play/iniiwasan ko ang games na competitive or PVP like MOBA or FPS)
- loves to read (fantasy geek ako but open naman sa ibang genre)
- i can sketch and do arts and crafts but not that good
- bisexual
If you think we can vibe, feel free to hmu. Also I'm pretty much open to talk to anyone but please don't be a creep and ask or talk to me regarding nsfw things.
How to add forms in Canva?
Hi, I'm new to this group and I just wanna ask something. How do you add forms on your canva websites? Like what app to use, I don't like how CreatECard since it added its own design which I think is totally different from the vibe and overall aesthetic of my design.
For more context the design is for a birthday party and I am gonna use the form as some kind of RSVP, I already integrated it with Google Forms but I really want the visitors of the site to just stay within canva or on one page. Answers would really help. Thanks in advance.
UPS at Far Eastern Hardware??
Does anyone know if may baligya na Uninterruptible Power Supply sa Far Eastern? I'm thinking of buying one since especially I'm gonna start a WFH job and its better to be ready. Also do they accept home credit or installments? Since buying it in one go might be a bad thing for my wallet.
My setup will be a laptop and a 2nd monitor with wifi but if brownout and gamiton ko na I might just stick to laptop only + wifi to save on its power.
