Toddler being away from parents

Hi! I am looking for some advice. I’m a SAHM and my son is 15, almost 16 months old. Anytime we go visit family, he will not let them hold him. We see them a couple times a month, but he screams and cries if they try to hold him.

His grandmas on both sides come over to our house at least once a week, and he does a little better with them, but even then when we are around other family members he won’t stay with them for more than about 5 minutes before crying for either his dad or me.

How were you able to help your child learn that other people are safe and okay? We are having the same issue at church in the nursery. He starts screaming and crying before we even get downstairs because he knows he is getting dropped off. Usually he cries for 30 minutes into the service before I get a message saying he is very upset, and I end up going to get him and calm him down but I have to fully step away from the kids zone!

We just bought our first home a few months ago and looking for Advice for my sons(1.5 YO) playroom the first two photos are of it currently and the last one was it when we first moved in. We plan on getting an alphabet rug to go under his pikler set this weekend but what else could we add to make it more fun for him? Preferably would like to stick with the decor we have now but we would be okay with painting the walls or adding more decor ! I know i definitely need to start putting his toys on a toy rotation but looking for advice also on that if anyone has tips on how they rotate them it would be greatly appreciated!
