Curb appeal suggestions?

Looking for ideas and suggestions on how to make the front more appealing and inviting. I think the fence is off-putting how it is, but I'm not sure if I should add a door on the gate, add shrubs or vines, or what? I know things are overgrown in the front. I'm thinking Muhly grass or Lemongrass. The hardiness grow zone is 8b. Ideas?

How to update , either brick or siding

Hey guys, love our house just trying to make it less 1991. The siding is in great shape but shines a rose colour. The brick is not nice, random paint lines from previous paint job. And a super ugly brown in person.

I’m very handy, siding accessible everywhere except back (second story daunting). Lime wash brick? Garage is first thing you see, roof is redish brown. I want to minimize pink and brown

Window layout suggestion

I was wondering which layout for the windows you would recommend number 1 or 2. If you suggest another alternative design/ layout of windows let me know. But for now I am just debating between these two layouts. Thank you again for your feedback. I hope this meets the 200 character limit the moderator set out. I could or probably asked the same thing in less words 🤓

Help me pick an exterior color scheme - interior is white/alabaster but I want the outside to have more character, though not too much

Repainting the exterior of my house and I'm stuck on the palette. Looking for honest opinions before I commit.

What I'm working with:

- Interior is white + Alabaster (SW 7008) - clean and bright, love it inside. But I don't want the exterior to feel like a plain white box too.

- House style: 1960s ranch

- Fixed elements I can't change: roof is brownish, plus stucco on front and sides

- Location/climate: Bay Area, lots of sun

- Vibe I want: Modern, Woody, Warm - happy

What I'm considering:
- Touch of Sand - SW or Natural linen + White for the trims.
- Vinyl on the windows is white and would stay that way.

I also have a workshop/office + storage - would love to get ideas on those too.

Photos attached. Roast my ideas - I'd rather hear it now than after $4k of paint. Thanks!

Color HELP - Choosing Railing color on Front Porch

We have an old Victorian home - the top is green with off-white trim. The pictures show two options - one with off-white railings/balusters and one with white railings/balusters. The siding on the bottom of the house is an off-white color as well. Currently, the only white thing on the house is the gutters around the porch.

What are your thoughts? Go with white and make it stand out? Or go with off-white and preserve the color palette of the rest of the home?

Please help!

** Edited to add: See original photo in the comments. Both photos in post are mock-ups.

Exterior paint color

We added the roof over our deck and replaced it. The deck posts and deck used to be light tan (same as windows and trim). However when we got new windows and roof, we decided on bronze. We are in the middle of painting the posts bronze, but I can’t decide if that is the correct paint color 🫠🆘 I did not plan on painting gutters and fascia.

outside entry way

what are your suggestions to decorate the entry way?

original was thinking a few vases and large plants but unsure if I want to maintain them and worried about potential damage to the concrete. Also, house is in northern Midwest so would need to figure out what to do in colder months

wanting to make it more warm and welcoming but keep it simple

Follow up post

this is a follow up to my original post in this thread. this photo is a bit more updated - we replaced the door with a more modern option, redid windows and added planters.

this is where I feel the house could really use an update - first appearance as you approach!

again, need some budget friendly options. Would love some help!

Front entry help

I need some suggestions for the front walkway. I’m potentially selling and need to keep expenses low but know that curb appeal is important in this game

as it stands, railroad ties cradle some rock beds and sad planted ferns (this is how I purchased the house).

the grass is not currently dormant, these are older photos (but it will be soon - summer in the PNW fries most lawns).

all suggestions welcome but again, this needs to be done on a small budget ($5k max).

Help with front door color

So for starters, I really don’t like the color of our home (the orange specifically). But that’s a project for down the road. I envision it having more gray or cream (or maybe black 😈)

I have this red front door. Swipe to see. Not a huge fan. And recommendations on color?? Thanks in advance 🙏🏼

Front yard 2 months after moving in

It’s no masterpiece and we are far from being experts in anything we do but the few things we’ve done I feel have made a huge difference.

The Hostas grew back, we added marble stones and garden picket fencing to the garden bed areas, removed the chain link fence, some weeding and extra grass seed, some pavers to create a border, added some accessories in sidewalk lights, our flag, some extra flowers or decorations here and there. A little of this and a little of that and a good amount of love and effort. There’s always a little something more to do.

It makes us happy to look at our work and call this our home.

Feel free to drop in some recommendations that we can do to make us love it even more!

its the small stuff

bought a house last year and ive been slowly working through the exterior. painted the front door. added some planters. fixed the lighting.

finally got to the house numbers last weekend. the old ones were crooked and faded and just looked tired. swapped them out for some clean metal numbers from Modern House Numbers. took maybe 15 minutes.

honestly its not gonna win any awards but the house just looks more put together now. weird how much difference such a small thing makes.

Front entry advice?

We are getting our house resided soon and in preparation we’ve been doing a ton of work to the exterior. We’ve lived in the home for 20 years and the main entrance has been the one part we detest, struggle with envisioning the best solution.

We don’t park in the garage, so to enter the home we go up 3 steps, then over a concrete slab and up 4 steps into the house.

We’d like to put a door level landing in and then stairs that make their way down to the driveway. Not sure if we should do one set of stairs or split into two with a lower landing. I’d also like to scale the stairs at the driveways back and put a retaining wall in. We’re also planning to do stone, not wood.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! We would love to finally have it more functional, but attractive.

Boring and sad

The front is so boring and I'd love to make it cuter. I am planning on painting the front door and shutters an olive green color and get rid of the dead plants. In the fall I will be starting a clover lawn since most of the existing grass is dead and patchy. The front yard gets tons of full sun, but due to summer droughts the plants need to be able to stand up to the southern heat. Eventually thinking about putting a floating deck and maybe a pergola instead of the garden bed but in the meantime, what can I do now to jazz things up on a smaller budget (easy diy stuff)? Any help appreciated because my creative juices are overwhelmed.

Improvements as first time homeowner?

It’s my first time owning a home! We’ve lived here for 2 years and I’m finally getting around to improving my curb appeal. I live in an “up and coming” neighborhood where there is a 50/50 mix of nice homes and not so nice ones. I want to be part of the positive change to improve the neighborhood!

I know nothing about gardening or landscaping, but I do love a project and am very capable of a DIY. Any ideas on how I can improve my curb appeal?

A couple of notes:
- the hanging baskets are usually hanging but were taken down for watering
- one of the short edges of my brick edging hasn’t been officially placed, it’s just laying on its side on the ground where it’s going to be.
- I should probably get mulch but I just planted some creeping Jenny and I want to see how far it can spread. But maybe I should just get mulch

Zhuzh it up?

This summer we're planning to paint and build a small deck on the side that still has grass. I'd like to add a trellis somewhere and shrubs eventually. Want to keep the vegetable gardens zhuzh up the landscaping. I wish the front was more symmetrical but don't know where to even start with trying to balance the left and right side of the door.

Ideas for improvements? Getting married so turning it from ‘My House’ into ‘Our Home’.

Pluto included because he’s always sleeping out front so he’s part of the curb appeal.
