What colors for this 1960s colonial?

We're getting new siding, roof, shutters, and the front door needs painted. The gutters, windows, and brick are staying. My aim is to make it feel less stark and soften the contrast. I also want to stay traditional but not boring beige.

If you could pick any color for the siding, shutters, and door what would it be? If you had to pick one of the color options attached which would it be? OR keep the siding white but change the shutter and door colors?

I'm leaning towards an earthy grey-green (sage?) or possibly a blue. I don't feel like there had been a color that really jumps out as my favorite from the color swatches we have from our contractor (Certainteed and Norandex). The last few photos are examples of the siding color options. Some of them seem to look so different depending on sun vs cloud cover and changes the whole feel (i.e. It gets way too green in sunlight).

I just keep going around and around and can't settle.

Norandex Vinyl Siding Olive and Fee

Has anyone used the color Olive or Fern from Norandex and have pics to share? There are hardly any real life examples out there.

Exterior color palette advice

I know this is a bit of a stretch to post since our home is from 1960...but I'm trying to lean more into the colonial features (such as they are haha). We need a new roof, siding, and shutters. I'm toying with different colors but don't really know what direction to go. If I stick with white siding, I'm thinking to soften the contrast with navy shutters and a light blue door. I'm also really drawn to sage like the inspo photo attached.

Any thoughts? Other colors to consider?

New colors for a colonial revival

After a hailstorm, we're getting a new roof, siding, and shutters. The front door also needs to be painted. While the current colors are very classic, they feel a little stark and cold to me...especially in the winter with snow in the ground (and that's a significant amount of the year where we live).

I want it to feel warm and inviting but also classic. I like greenish blues and sage greens but open to any ideas. If we kept the white, I would like to change the shutters and door color but not sure what colors. I also can't decide between louvered or paneled shutters. Any advice?

I tried one AI mockup and I liked the front of the house but didn't love it on the back of the house for some reason.

What do you do on the weekends?

After 5 years of being a SAHM I feel like I finally have a good routine for weekdays. And as a family our evenings are generally pretty smooth. But every weekend we fall apart. Somehow the addition of my husband throws everything off 😅 I feel like the house explodes, everyone is out of sorts, and yet some how we don't actually do anything fun. By Sunday night we're scrambling to get the house set for the week and both my husband and I are grumpy.

What do your weekends look like? How do you shuffle things around when adding your husband into the mix? Do you change your who is responsible for chores/kids?

Anyone else's 5 year old take 2 hours to fall asleep?

My 5 year old wakes up around 7:30am. We have a consistent calming routine before light out at 8:30pm. She calmly lays there and listens to a quiet story on her Yoto. She does a pretty good job laying there in her own bed although sometimes needs something or needs us to check on her before ultimately falling asleep between 10-10:30pm. She generally seems like she wants to sleep longer in the morning but is woken up by siblings or we need to go somewhere. She'll cry and say "I'm too tired, I just want to keep sleeping."

Official recommendations I've seen say to have at least 10 hours of sleep per night and she's consistently under that amount. We have tried putting her to bed early and it still takes that long. We've tried shifting bedtime earlier and wakeup earlier and it just doesn't seem to work. The only time she falls asleep faster is if we lay with her. Then it only takes her 1 hour to fall asleep.

Is she just low sleep needs? If so, I feel bad for making her spend 2 hours of her day just laying in bed. But she seems like she'd benefit from more sleep. I just don't know how to make it happen without having to lay with her for an hour.

Trouble with mini split layout

We've had about 5 different HVAC companies out to give quotes on installing mini splits and our second floor seems to be challenging to lay out. Every single contractor has had wildly different ideas on how to arrange it; however no one has been able to put a head in each bedroom.

The most minimalist approach was just having one head in the hallway. That was definitely the most cost effective but I don't think it would work for us because one room needs to have the door closed all day (one of us works from home) and another room needs to be closed often during the day and all night (baby naps and needs door closed at night).

The closest we got to having a head in every room was having an outdoor unit on the back right of the house with a head in Bed 2 and a line going through Bed 2 into the Master Bed. The second unit would be on the left side of the house with a head in Bed 3 and 4 (plus one going downstairs to the main living area). But nothing in Bed 5. I did wonder if we could have a line run inside through Bed 4 into Bed 5.

The constraints here would be that we want to limit this to only two outdoor units and would really prefer not to have a line set on the front exterior of the house. Any advice?

18 month old started waking 3-4 times per night

Just turned 18 months and for awhile he'd been doing well with a 5.5/5.5 or 6/5.5 schedule. 2 hour nap. He'd wake once or twice at night. After a long illness we had to re-establish independent sleep at bedtime. It took two nights and now he does well at bedtime but nighttime has absolutely fallen apart over the last month and now he has 3-4 night wakings. They're all over the place. Sometimes they're evenly spaced throughout the night. Sometimes he'll sleep a really long first chunk of the night and then wake every 30 min from 2-4am.

He does generally still have one feeding overnight which I know I need to work on weaning. It hadn't been causing issues before all this so I'm not sure if these issues are related or if we have a schedule issue or what.

Schedule check for 16 month old

He's never been an amazing sleeper but we had been in a predictable pattern of 1-2 wakeups. But the last 3 weeks have just gone to crap and now he's waking up 4 times a night and has had several very early morning wakeups. It's been too long to be teething or illness so just want to double check his schedule. I have tried a longer bedtime wake window but anything over 5.5 hours results in worse sleep so I try to keep the longest wake window in the morning.

Wake: 7:15

Nap 1-2:30 or 3

Bed: 8-8:30

If the exterior of the door and storm door are black, what color should the door jamb, the threshold, and the interior of the storm door be painted? The interior of the door and all the interior trim is a dark stained wood.

Advice for a second time through the series.

When I first listened to the series, I had no idea how deep the symbolism and intricacies of all the details went. It wasn't until I finished the last one that I came over to Reddit and was impressed by all of your insights.

I'm going to start another listen through soon and want to pay more attention to these details. I've even seen some of you say you dedicated a read through to noticing colors or flowers. I don't know if I can go that deep into it but I would like to go past a surface level entertainment. Any advice on things to look for and notice?

Raised/bumpy splash marks on stainless steel

I just moved into a house and the dishwasher has what looks like splash marks on the bottom. The don't wipe or scrub off. It feels slightly raised/bumpy. What's the best way to attempt to remove it without scratching the stainless steel?
