IB Predicted Grades Appeal for Cambridge

I just got my predicted scores for the IB, 42/45 with 7 Bio, 6 Chem, 6 Mat HL.

Cambridge medicine (reachiest of reaches I know) requires a 776 in HLs - I should try to appeal for a higher grade for chemistry and or maths, right? Even if they are predicted grades. 776 predicted isn't strictly necessary as long as I do achieve it for my final exams I believe.

Also - payments to the counselor for UCAS, right? Gotta get on that.

Any advice would be appreciated! Deadline coming up.

Grade Inflation?

Doing well with school grades but don't feel confident for my exams. Study minimally, I need to practice integrals. Feels like the exams will be harder? My solution is past papers here, have been procrastinating them but gotta do it.

Put off my EE all summer then delayed then finished my first rough draft with the deadline adrenalin with two all nighters, procrastinating everything right now actually by writing this post :D. How have I made it this far

Chem EE Evaluation Section

In examples online and in some guides, they place the evaluation section after the conclusion.

However, according to a recent EE support document I read, your conclusion should be at the very end of your essay and your evaluation should be integrated throughout, because the EE is an essay and not a lab report.

Where should I place this? I just moved the section to the end of discussion for now.

Also - I have a whole section discussing my preliminary trial and justification for my methodology before my variables then hypothesis section. Is that appropriate? Anybody with As in chemistry EEs that can help me? Though the grading has changed for 2027.

Thank you all!

Even though rough draft then final draft (internal) is due in a day and 1 week (or a week and 2 weeks depending on where you look) or touch any of my IAs. Great job me, every time.

Will be adrenaline writing soon, can feel it coming

edit: my school is small and not too strict, it'll be okay (please)

Int student - Do I have a Chance?

The only way I am realistically going to a UK med school is if I get this scholarship (full + living! can you believe it? only for so many years though but savings should pull through) which only pays out for these universities:

Imperial College London / King's College London / London School of Economics and Political Science / University College London / University of Cambridge / University of Edinburgh / University of Oxford (another I am applying to only supports those admitted to UCL Imperial Oxbridge)

Didnt really have high hopes with how competitive medicine is but took the UCAT yesterday, and got a 2470 Band 2 (higher than estimates from my mocks). Which is a bit lower than the 2530/2540 I saw for intl. Oxbridge applicants but might be good for other programs. Taking the IB (chem math aa bio HL) so that needs to go well, but do I actually have a chance at my pipe dreams? Grades have gone quite well so far, I believe due to grade inflation, but if I really apply myself I believe I can meet the 38/39 threshold (this holds for intl too right?).

My true realistic options in my domestic country require 24 and 26 IB points respectively (we have 2 med schools for non graduates), the competition starts in the second year - but I would rather get it over with now and get into a competitive program, and applications are due much later than UCAS so not worrying about this right now.

One more thing - anyone have advice for my UCAS choices? I didn't pick safeties because I need a scholarship to attend. Currently I have

Medicine @

Cambridge (picked because more people interviewed, may change to oxford in light of UCAT and because interviews are not my strong suit? is this a good idea?)

ICL

UCL

Edinburgh (planning to keep the other 3 because accepted for both scholarships, but either KCL or UoE for this 4th spot. Is it better to swap to KCL because better chance to be interviewed?)

and UCL biomedical science (is this the best backup option/uni?)

TLDR: Oxford vs cambridge? KCL vs Edinburgh? Best backup 5th slot?

Wasted time on QR

Misread a question (thought it was asking abut the whole table, was actually asking about a single category) and spent wayyyy too much time on it than I should have (sunk cost fallacy, did ~13 arithmetic steps and there were a lot of numbers) then ran out of time for the last few questions. Still somehow ended up with a score I am very happy with, but regret what I know I could have done. Don't be like me future test takers! The "which questions to skip" videos I crammed were actually very helpful, heed their warning.

P.S. just realised, there is no tag option for NZ med schools/dental? I take this as a grave offense upon my kiwi heart, please fix this oh great reddit deities of this sub

DP1 Summer

1 month left in my summer break. Doing all my IAs and a Chem EE (more so not doing it) and feel overwhelmed. I need to take UCAT too on the 31st if July, apply for scholarships, do the UCAS although I cant go without getting some of that nice scholarship money.

Other dp1 students lets band together, please send me DMs or something or lets make an accountability circle, even my mom's pressure is not enough to get me off my web novel and on my IAs. Someone help please! Though its just that I need to get to it, its so hard.

Trying to do a Chemistry EE

Doing effects of catalytic acids on aspirin synthesis, and different acids cost/environmental impacts (to make the essay "argumentative" and not a lab report). Know this is a very cliche topic, but feel like I spent too long on this to not now - actually picked this because of a workshop I went to years ago without being taught it in class or searching online, shame that it was a not recommended topic.

Originally planned to measure percentage yield and purity (same temp, 3 trials per acid) but was told it was too long (maybe an hour per trial, without drying time, dont have a Buchner funnel so need to air dry). My supervisor tells me that the experiment shoudlnt be the main focus of the EE, but I am worried because the examples I see are very much experiment focused and much more complicated/longer than mine, but when I try to lengthen my methodology my teacher says it's better to focus on the argument and even do a databased EE. What do I do? Do I make two versions?

Did anyone take the IB Diploma?

Hello folks,

I was hoping any students that took the IB Diploma in highschool (particularly Maths AA, Bio & Chem HL) could give some insight into how the courseload compares? Wanted to see what I should be prepared for!

Am I behind?

Just about to finish DP1.

English class we've read 2 literary texts and did an ad campaign, some comics and doing some speeches now. Feel woefully underprepared for my IO and dont think my papers have improved much because we dont receive much feedback.

Still haven't gone past a research question for my Chem EE, due in September

Starting to do our maths IAs and looking for ideas online, dont understand what group theory or Taylor series or bunch of things are

Don't know much about college apps, know Im applying to one target university

Am I gonna be okay? Saw people saying DP2 is when I should be worried but deadlines are coming up

Essentially a native speaker (though technically not first language), had to take it for uni requirements

Wrote way too much for writing, task 1 ~250 task 2 ~500 words and didnt have much time to proofread oops.

My mother wants me to single skill retest the writing for ego reasons (met requirements), do I do this?
