A man spent the night in a neuro ICU after being assaulted inside a Gurugram society. Three days on, the police station sector 65 still hasn't registered an FIR.

On the night of 7 October, a resident of a large plotted township in Sector 67, Gurugram was assaulted by three people outside his home. He was taken to a private hospital in Sector 47 the same night and admitted to the neuro ICU.

The hospital registered a medico-legal case. The discharge summary records head injury with concussion, loss of consciousness, a blood clot in the nasal cavity, injury to the lip and throat, and anterior neck pain. The treating team noted he needed a longer stay than he took. He is on a soft diet and still cannot breathe through one nostril.

In the complaint he has filed, he has stated that two of the assailants are bouncers engaged through the society’s RWA and the third holds a position in it, and that this followed months of him being vocal on society issues and his asking the RWA for audited accounts — none of which have been produced, and no AGM has been held for the last financial year despite the statutory deadline passing on 30 September.

It has now been three days. No FIR has been registered.

I’m keeping his identity anonymous and writing about him in the third person deliberately. The people named in the complaint live in the same society, it’s an active police matter, and I’m not going to name anyone or post anything that isn’t already in a filed complaint or a hospital record.
