Phone heating after replacing middle frame

I replaced my Redmi note 9 pro's middle frame, by taking all components from previous frame, and fitting it in the new frame.
phone works. all good.

but I charged my phone, in switched off state, and 10 mins later the phone is hot.
the CPU side specifically
what could be the reason?

Could it be something is shorting? I did not remove anything from CPU, i just put it as it is
There is also no thermal paste in it, but could that cause heat just from charging the phone?
(the original phone barely had thermal paste in it, like few patches of thermal paste. not a fully applied one.)
