But how was she in Tamil cinema during her prime.
I know she wasn’t a top actress but did do some good projects.
What are your opinions on her? Any interesting stuff about her during that time?

There was a huge sensational scandal being reported in 2007 and it was the arrest of a tennis coach on the complaints made by his second wife to the commissioner. The wife alleged that her husband used to abuse the young girls, particularly teenage girls who learnt tennis from him. he used to touch them in a inappropriately and he used to give dance classes on the pretext that dance will improve foot work and agility on the court and they can become a wonderful tennis players but it was all abuse in the disguise of tennis training then he was finally arrested and the case is still pending under it has not come. During those times faster legal mechanisms were not available and fastrack courts for such cases were not available and the case dragged on.
Almost everyone would remember reading about this case in newspapers and watching this case coverage in television. But the rabbit hole is that the infamous tennis academy had nasty connections with Kollywood. The accused tennis coach produced quite good results in state level and national level tournaments, so parents from other districts and states enrolled their kids in the coaching centre.
I knew about this scandal but the deeper rabit hole was revealed by my uncle. A relative girl of mine wanted to learn tennis and my uncle told her parents about this and he told me about this case and the horrors behind this case. I don't know whether this is true or false and it is hearsay information, but he has a long experience working in various fields in Chennai and I felt that this could be shared here.
My uncle told that there was a deeper connection with Kollywood to the crimes rather than the coach alone. He told that the coach had some appartments for lease or rent in RA Puram where he would make the young children who come to train in his academy stay. The trainees were mostly aged 13-24 and he used to ask them to enroll in dance classes and teach them dance! While asked why he was teaching dance instead of tennis he would calmly reply "Dance improves agility and mobility and promotes tennis skills".
He would teach dance by organising a party every weekend and the trainees would come and participate and this is where the crime happens and the drinks would be spiked which would make them semi conscious and they would not be aware of what was happening. The top kollywood stars would come to the party and they would also abuse the trainees 😲 😨. Some prominent names which my uncle mentioned cannot be mentioned directly. But one recurring name that he mentioned was the man who was known for his ability to play versatile roles and increase or decrease his weight for roles (Not kamal). He also mentioned various producers, cinematographers who enjoyed during those parties. After the arrest of the coach, the tennis academy was shut down and the partying stopped. But the perpetrators are yet to be punished. My uncle was involved in reporting about the Fourth Eezham war going on between the LTTE and Sri Lankan army during 2007 and he was advised by his friends to look into the issue also. Many shocking details were discovered by him and his friends, but alas at the end as usual the powerful escaped.
Who do you think is a better music director? If you think about it, Harris has a much better discography than Yuvan. He produced banger after banger in the 2000s.
I'm not trying to turn this into another debate about how men and women are treated differently in the industry. I'm tired of seeing the same arguments repeated too. I'm talking about these specific posts and why people are so bothered by a pairing where the woman happens to be older.
Hi was such a clean, feel-good, family-friendly love story. Nayanthara and Kavin had really good chemistry, and their pairing worked for the kind of film it was. But instead of talking about the movie itself, people keep bringing up her age and how she's supposedly too old for him or for her character.
I don't buy the whole "I have a problem with older male actors pairing up with younger actresses too" argument when the same energy isn't there when the woman is older. People are much more bothered by that specifically.
Like why are actresses expected to move on to mom, sister or supporting roles once they reach a certain age? Male actors well into their 60s can still play mass heroes and lead commercial films, so why can't women continue playing lead roles too? Obviously the character and casting should make sense, but Nayanthara wasn't playing a teenager in Hi. She was just playing a woman in a normal love story. What exactly was so unrealistic about that?
It's nice to see Nayan still getting these roles instead of being pushed into the same limited set of characters actresses are usually expected to take on as they get older.
You don't have to like Hi or their pairing, but I don't understand why her age has become the main talking point when the movie was literally just a sweet, wholesome love story.
This is rachitha ram from coolie, idk where it was taken, but touching someone cheeks without permission is definitely harassment, she took it lightly and moved on.But this is why actresses treat fans like plague.
With Toxic and Hi, it looks like Nayanthara attempted to recreate the time she juggled both Billa and Yaradi Nee Mohini around the same time. Back in 2007, her look in Billa was a real image makeover for her from her more homely girl next door roles with some glamour in songs. While it was not a performance oriented role, Nayanthara maintained the attitude with aplomb. As for Yaradi Nee Mohini, it is one role that explored her ability to emote and be a boss woman, which she did very well.
However, with Toxic and Hi, I felt that it did not work. While she was good in Toxic, the movie did no justice to her aura and screen presence. On the other hand, with Hi, she seemed to be a total miscast as the exuberant girl from the village.
In terms of looks, we know this is something Nayanthara can pull off, but the question is what is next from her? Hopefully, like how she had a reinvention with Billa and then Sri Rama Rajyam, Nayanthara will come up with a film that explores something fresh or appropriate for her capabilities, maybe something like what Keerthy is doing with Dorothy where she can make an impact with very little screen time.
Going purely by appearance/vibe, Vijay and Sneha are my pick. Curious what combinations everyone else comes up with.
I first watched him in the series "As I'm suffering from Kadhal" and then in "Petta" and now in "Dorothy". What an evolution! From acting as a timid guy and now playing his character in Dorothy with absolute conviction! As much as Rishikanth is getting applauded and recognised for his potential right now, I believe Sananth deserves the same as well. The man has incredible potential and I hope to see him evolve into a more successful actor in good scripts! Hats off to him for being able to bring an entire screen to applaud for his character 👏🏼
