Running tally of deaths so far: 6

Started a new game after getting stuck on mission 4 a long time ago. I’m on easy mode because I haven’t played before (started the old game on normal), so it’s not like I’m playing on high difficulty, but I do feel like most of my deaths were just bad luck.

First two deaths were to the Alien. She jumped down from the vents right in front of me and I just ran at her because I knew I was a goner anyways. Third time was to one of the damn androids, I managed to get to the elevator that took me back down to the comms area but one of them followed me in and killed me. Fourth through sixth times were also the Alien, but the fifth time wasn’t my fault. I was hiding behind some boxes and she walked right past me, but when I turned to watch her go I think she must have bumped me (or maybe I stepped on her tail, who knows) because she instantly turned and killed me.

Anyways, just thought y’all might appreciate the running tally since I’m a newbie.

Finished the main quest….I have questions

Major spoilers for main plot below!

Okay, so you were the Collector all along?? How does that even make sense? The Collector said he’d been on that island, what, 20 years? Which implies that’s how long ago Julie died. And he said he was “What fractured from you” after she died, or something like that. So where were you, the Fisherman, all this time before crashing near the lighthouse??

Also I thought the fate of the old fisherman would be relevant, but it wasn’t. And what was up with those packages you brought to the Lesser Marrows dockworker? Were they mutant fish or something else?

And last but not least, I don’t get the note about ‘five = rise, he knows’. Was the old fisherman talking about you/the Collector, or someone else??

How would you recreate the feeling of this game in a book?

I’m not really a huge horror fan, but I like this game and the original Alien movie a lot. I’ve been toying with the idea of trying to write something with the same general vibes as Alien and Alien Isolation, but I’m not really sure how to capture the traits that make them so great in writing when most of the appeal for me is the visual medium (and in the game’s case, a truly stellar AI!).

My story doesn’t have to specifically have xenomorphs or anything like that, although they’re fantastic monsters. I’m more looking for the ‘trying to outwit/hide from a dangerous predator, oh god I’m hiding in a locker, let me throw this flare and go the other way’ type of stuff. If anyone has any suggestions I’d love to hear them.

I am obsessed with this game

Started playing yesterday and I’m hooked (pun intended 😆)! Already got the artifacts at the Marrows and Gale Cliffs, working on the one in Stellar Basin. I’m really enjoying just exploring and finding little hidden things to interact with. Found the stray dog near Stellar last night and was elated, but that immediately morphed into terror when I realized he could get killed if my boat went down. Thank fuck I found him a good home.

Anyway, I love this game and I can’t wait to keep playing. Only seven hours until work ends…..
