NGD: 2005 RGT42DX - Question about replacement bridges as well
I had a very nice playing Chibson relic’d “Greenie” that ended up getting more and more relic’d due to its crumby laminate top haha. I had put DiMarzio PAF59s in it and it sounded ok. Found this thing listed on OfferUp and asked if he’d want to trade since I’ve been looking for a project Ibanez and the guy was all over it. Didn’t want to bother with the trem. I’ve always wanted a white RGT42 but this one looked relatively unused for its age. It had sky high action, the trem was tilted way too much, and was dirty and grimey. I cleaned it up, polished the frets, conditioned the fretboard, lowered the trem and absolutely slammed the action and it plays awesome now. Threw some leftover pickup covers I had in it since it looked too plain for my liking. Man I thought the AANJ was nice, the upper fret access on this is nuts!
The tuning stability hasn’t been too much of an issue with the Edge Pro II but going from my Prestiges with Edge, Edge Pro and Lo-Pro to this is quite a contrast. From what I gather, the Edge Pro II is much better than the other trems they put on these after 2007 but still may want to update. I actually love the Edge Pro on my SRG2520. Is there anything that is a straight replacement that can use same post hold and doesn’t need additional routing? Might go with less rigid springs as well for the time being since there is zero flutter on it. Any advice?
Also, the serial # starts with KR and I’ve never seen that for MIK Ibanez. Online search results didn’t offer much info either.
Probably going to put a pickguard on this and update the pickups to Satchur8 or PAF Pros. Wanted something I could do a refin on but with the neckthru and all the binding, that may be a bit more involved than I’d want.
