What Song Did I Hear In Gràcia Tonight?

I was at the fiesta de Gràcia tonight and heard this brass & percussion band on the street, surrounded by a massive crowd and women on stilts, and they were playing this banger that everyone was singing along to. I don’t speak Catalan and I’m only conversational in Spanish, so I don’t know what any of the lyrics were but I dug the tune. Any idea what it could have been? It sounded like a sort of anthem or traditional song that most people are very familiar with in Barcelona, Catalan, or Spain, had a vaguely Arabic sounding scale and kind of reminded me of “Marcia Religiosa” from Godfather III, but only slightly. Here’s a video I took of it. Thank you!!

Anarchist Response to Borkenau’s “The Spanish Cockpit”?

I’m reading Borkenau’s The Spanish Cockpit, and I knew going into it that Borkenau was biased against the anarchists in 1936 Spain, so I’m reading everything with a grain of salt. Of course, at times he praises certain achievements of the anarchist elements, but at other times he is downright insulting and dismissive, while holding the other Leftists to a much more reasonable and tolerant standard.

Is there any literature out there addressing each (or some) of Borkenau’s criticisms of the Spanish anarchists from a perspective less biased against the anarchists?

Thanks!!

Reconciling Nestor Makhno’s Command Structure with Anarchism

Im reading a biography about Nestor Makhno and his commitment to anarchism is admirable, but it appears that neither he nor his comrades had any problem with a top > down structure within their revolutionary army.

First of all, I know that the circumstances were unique; they were in the midst of revolution, so complete adherence to an avoidance of vertical power structure may have been a luxury they could not afford. Still, I’m wondering if anyone has come across any analysis of this paradox either from Makhno himself or someone who understands the nuanced situation well.

Most Progressive Dem Primary Candidates on CH North Ballot?

None of the candidates I’ve heard about are on my ballot. I prefer to vote as Left / progressive as I can. Anyone have the scoop?

Articles/Books/etc on EU imperialism and exploitation?

I’m interested in learning more about the abuses undertaken by the EU. I’m against the EU from a theoretical standpoint as an anarchist, but I’d like to know more about the direct harms it has caused, even outside or on the margin of the Leftist perspective. I’d like to be able to articulate why the EU is wrong beyond the usual (although valid) “because it’s a state” routine. Thanks!

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/4/28/uae-leaves-opec-and-opec

In case it becomes relevant, I’m an anarcho-communist that lives in the United States of America. I’m familiar with OPEC, but I don’t have enough of a grasp on OPEC or the global oil market to understand how this is likely to affect things, who it helps, who it hurts, what this might change insofar as ceasefire negotiations in Iran and Lebanon, etc.

As a Far-Leftist, of course my ultimate hope is that every leaf that falls from every tree somehow brings about the collapse of top-down capitalist civilization, but I’m more interested in what shifts this is likely to bring in the current, state-based economy and political landscape of 2026 Earth.

Thanks to those who can interpret my very simple request and offer their opinions and predictions, even those that are unpopular or unlikely.

And an advance “honey, shhh…” to those who want to turn this into yet another opportunity to be pedantic and divisive in a subreddit where, more often than not, people are just asking earnest questions and looking for earnest, relevant responses.
