Tongue Issues

Tongue Issues

TLDR: Tongue red at the tip and slightly swollen. Doctors stumped.

Last August (2025) I woke up with an incredibly dry mouth and the tip of my tongue was bright red. It had felt like I’d burned it drinking something hot. Anything spicy, citric, or carbonated was incredibly painful to consume. It took about 2 weeks for it to stop hurting but the tongue continues to look the same. Every now and then it flares up and feels sore and rough. It also has been slightly swollen as you can tell from the scalloped edge. My PCP and dentist weren’t sure what it was. ENT thought it might be glossitis and gave me some medicine last year but within a month it was back to what you see now. I have a lot of health stuff going on so thought maybe solving the tongue problem could help with other stuff. Thoughts?

Handling Meltdowns

TLDR: how to I help my 6 year old in the middle of a violent tantrum?

My 6 year old daughter is autistic with low support needs. She had a tough day at school then came home and lost her favorite small lizard fidget literally in the wall. 🤦‍♀️ Her meltdown was explosive, the worst she has ever had. Throwing herself at furniture, hitting herself, screaming, throwing toys…I don’t know how to help when she gets to this point. What do I do?

Additional ramblings:
I am also autistic with low support needs. I was previously an elementary teacher but never experienced meltdowns like this. And it’s also very different being the parent to the child.

Multiple factors added to this meltdown besides losing a comfort item. She is most likely getting sick and I am leaving town on a trip in a few days. We knew she was going to be more reactive over the next few days but today was something else.
