JPMorgan internal switch from Operations (Grade 440) to Tech – need advice

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working at JPMorgan in Operations at Grade 440, and I’m trying to move internally into Technology/IT.

From what I’ve checked, most Tech roles I’m seeing start at around Grade 502. I spoke with an ED about this, and I was told that I cannot directly move from 440 to 502 because there is another grade (450) in between.

However, I checked the HR policies available to me and couldn’t find anything saying that a 440 → 502 move isn’t allowed.

So, I wanted to ask:

  • Is 440 → 502 actually not possible?
  • If not, are there any 450 roles/job codes that could help me move towards Tech?
  • Are there any other entry-level Tech roles/job codes I should look for?
  • Has anyone here successfully moved from Operations → Tech internally?

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through this

Hey everyone! I just moved to Hyderabad and I’m looking for someone to join for morning runs at the Narsingi cycling track. I’m a mid-level runner.

Thinking somewhere around 5:30–6:30 AM. Mainly looking to make some new connections here too, so happy to run at whatever pace works!!

Failed a Gen AI tech interview despite 4 months of self-learning — what skills do I actually need? Looking for honest advice.

I have a B.Tech in Computer Science but have been working in a non-tech role for a while now. Over the last four months I’ve been self-learning Generative AI, hoping to transition back into a tech role. When an internal opportunity came up at my company, I took the shot — and got completely humbled.

The interviewer expected strong Data Science fundamentals too (stats, ML, modelling etc.), which I honestly wasn’t prepared for. I thought Gen AI knowledge alone would be enough to get a foot in the door. It wasn’t.

The rejection stung, but I’d rather learn from it than give up. So I’m asking the community:

•What are the entry-level skills someone like me should start with to even be considered for a tech role — do I need to solid up on SQL, ML basics before touching AI again?

Any advice would mean a lot. Thanks.

Failed my first internal tech interview at JPMorgan (Gen AI role) — what skills do I actually need? Looking for honest advice.

I have a B.Tech in Computer Science but have been working in a non-tech role at JPMorgan. Over the last four months I’ve been self-learning Generative AI, hoping to transition back into a tech role internally at JPMC. When an opportunity came up on the internal job listing, I took the shot — and got completely humbled.

The interviewer expected strong Data Science fundamentals too (stats, ML, modelling etc.), which I honestly wasn’t prepared for. I thought Gen AI knowledge alone would be enoughy to get a foot in the door. It wasn’t.

The rejection stung, but I’d rather learn from it than give up. So I’m asking the community:

For those who’ve made a similar transition internally — how long did it realistically take, and what was the one thing that made the difference?

I’m not looking for shortcuts — just an honest picture of what the path looks like from someone who’s been there. Any advice would mean a lot. Thanks.
