Workers comp timelines

Hey folks,

I was injured at work last year, im receiving workers compensation. Will not be able to return to previous job, currently working 15hrs a week admin role for same company.

I have developed two secondary injuries as a result of my first injury. Clear links. Insurer has obviously declined.

My question is, how long should it take for lawyers to get everything organised to dispute this at PIC?

I signed with them in janurary after insurer knocked secondary injuries back.

I already had all the medical evidence organised, they asked for insurer internal review which was also knocked back.

Ant, mid north coast nsw australia

Hi folks,

I was wondering if one of you would be kind enough to identify these ants for me. They appear to have eaten or made a burrow through and old tree fern that has been dead for a while. The same ants also appear to have eaten a hardwood timber fence post 300mm dia.

These ants were about 4-5mm long.

Sorry for the crap photos i was pannicking because I thought they were termites.

Accountant or financial planner

Hi folks,

Im not really sure whether i need to speak to an accountant or a financial planner.

Im in my mid 30s, I was injured at work and I am unable to return to my previous job. I have been given my tpd payout which is approx 100k, I am hopefully going to return to some type of meaningful work in the future. I am receiving 95% of my wage through workers compensation.

I was on approx 140k a year, my wife earns approx 115k a year.

I have 275k in super including the tpd payout.

The lawyers have just sent me a bill for 25k that I need to pay. I do not have that money easily available we have 100k in redraw on our house, but I dont want to go backwards. House valued at approx 1.1m (pre damage) loan balance of 750k including the 100k in redraw.

My house has also just had some fairly major settlement damage and I would like to get that and its causes fixed. I would like to withdraw my tpd payout.

Part of me wants to withdraw the whole lot and put it on my house, but I also dont want to completely fuck future me.

Id love to here some super general, not personal advice, particularly about the tax implications, or who i should speak too.

Cheers

Amstaff help needed east coast australia

Hi Folks,

We are based on the mid north coast of australia so it's probably not relevant for most but we need help.

Im looking for recommendations for a trainer for our 5yr old desexed male american staffy (pitbull).

We got him from the pound in october 2022, they said he was great on the lead and great with other dogs he was not and still isn't either of those things. He's better on the lead now but still pulls most of the time.

He has an insane prey drive, has killed heaps of rabbits, possums and bluetounge lizards that have made their way into the yard. He looks at small fluffy dogs the same way he looks at rabbits. He also would probably have a crack at a kangaroo or a deer if given the chance.

He hasn't really ever had a massive problem with people, until yesterday when he was meeting the new dog walker we had arranged to walk him while we are away ( house mate dosent feel comfortable walking him)

He nipped this poor lady, as she approached to say hello to him. Normally we have him on the lead and after 5 mins or so he is fine but not yesterday, she got to close too quick and he nipped her. I wouldn't say attacked as its not like he was being agressive or anything its more like he had no idea what to do or how to act while on the lead.

Anyway, my backs fucked and I cant walk him/ take him for runs next to the bicycle like I used too and now my wife is petrified of not being able to control him. Fair enough.

So I would like some recommendations for a good board and train on the east coast of australia. We need training just as much as the dog does. Price isn't so much of an issue as distance.

I have read some horror stories about the board and trains but I think it might be his last hope.

We are leaning towards the board and train as a more intensive and focused way for him to learn. My wife is quite timid with him and im currently unable to stand for long enough to do any meaningful training. I also dont know what im doing.

We have tried a couple of local trainers and they have just said he is the way he is and nothing will change that.

He isn't a horrible dog and i genuinely dont think he has ever been actually aggressive. Just has no idea how to act.

Sorry for the info dump, just not sure what else to say he is the love of our lives and we think of him as our child. That probably doesn't help things.

Any advice.

Book for 87yr old Australian grandfather

I have never know my grandfather to be a reader, other than the bookies section in the paper.

He's getting old and dosent know what to do with himself, so I've thought i might buy him a book or two.

Problem is im not much of a reader, and he has said he has no intrest in it.

Id imagine he wouldn't like anything scifi or wildly fiction.

Maybe some easy ready non fiction that would take him to places he's never been.

He's well travelled around australia.

When I was growing up there was always poetry books on the shelves and autobiographies but I dont think I have ever seen him with. Book in his hands.

Help me, id love for my pop to have atleast one hobby.

Maybe a shortish book would.be good.

How to help depressed grandfather

Hi folks,

Hoping theres someone thats been in a similar situation and has found a new meaning for life.

Bit of a back story.

My beautiful grandparents owned an amazing house, directly across from the beach. My pop renovated it himself rom a tiny 1 bedroom fishing shack into a house most people would think is beautiful. At one point both of their daughters and half the grand kids lived in that house at the same time. My mum, sister and I lived there for half my childhood.

Anyway, as these things go my grandparents began to age, my pop couldn't do/keep up with the maitenance, and they couldn't afford to pay tradespeople to do the required work. (The australian pension is a disgrace though im sure we have it better than most).

So they sold the house for what in our area was quite a bit of money and nan was convinced to buy into one of those god awful over 55's communities (my grandparents are mid to late 80s). Somehow nan was convinced there was going to be an amazing sense of community and that she would be playing tennis and swimming in the pools, unsuprisingly they dont. My pop really wanted to move into the bigger town near by and buy an apartment with ocean views so he could have atleast a little bit of the views they once had.

Anyway long story short, my pop absolutely hates the place. My nan pretends to like it. They won't consider moving again unfortunately. At some point they will be forced into aged care (in my opinion thats where they should have moved originally)

They won't spend anything bar the absolute minimum of money on anything won't even run the aircon. eventhough they have more money than they will ever need. They are saving it for their daughters, who they have already done absolutely everything for.

Anyway sorry too long again.

My beautiful pop who has been pretty much my father figure. Has always liked a drink but for the last few years it has clearly been a massive problem with my grandmother helping cover up his fuckups.

He is so fucking bored in his little shoe box house thats all he does.

He used to be a fantastic bowler but he has no desire to play lawn bowls. He joined a walking club but they were all mid 60s and he couldn't keep up so he stopped going.

I guess what im asking is what can I do with him when he doesn't want to do anything at all other than get pissed and gamble on the pony's.

Pops depression has gotten to the point where he told me on mothers day that he wants to die. I have no idea what to do.

All the family is very close but none of us visit enough we all have pretty significant shit going on uncle with cancer a mum with horrible ptsd.

I've got a pretty significant back injury so as much as id love for him to come to my place through the week and teach me some of the skills he has im unable to do.so at the moment. (My house could do with some skills)

Any ideas?

Again im sorry thats so long and is full of dribble.

I am looking for recommendations for a no-win, no fee lawyer for a second opinion / taking over my existing case.

My lawyer seems to be doing very little and has lied about trying to obtain documents from my medical providers.

Has lied / stretched the truth about the delays in getting my file from the insurance company ( they didn't open and download the files before they expired) i had to organise the files to be recollated and re sent to the lawyers.

They only work part time and are too busy with court cases to return my calls, I was not made aware of this prior to signing on.

I completely understand I am not their only client and this process is going to take a long time. But I need my secondary injuries reviewed and approved, surely that shouldn't take 4 months.

Or am I being that needy client.

They have got stage 2 funding already if that changes anything.

Please give me some recommendations.

Depending on my continued recovery, I may be over the 15% threshold.

Hi, folks.

Quick question regarding industry standard time lines.

I was injured at work, currently on workers comp.

Primary injury was a spinal injury, had surgery relieved some pain but scar tissue has left me with permernant nerve pain.

I have 2 secondary injuries one requireing surgery and is quite painful / inconvienient to deal with, both were knocked back by insurer due to lack of evidence, insurer asked for more evidence 15th december. While my doctor and surgeon were on holidays / busy. Refusal letter recieved mid Jan.

I have engaged the services of one of the big no win no fee mobs. I spoke to a seemingly wonderful lawyer who appeared to be really helpful and had all the time in the world for me. I signed on with them as soon as I got the rejection letter. From that point on things just seem to be moving at a glacial pace.

They asked insurer for my files, insurer collated and sent them but no body from lawyers bothered to download the files so the link expired. Took the insurer a month to get the files. So I had to organise for them to be sent again and chase up both the insurer and the lawyer.

I believe we have been granted stage 2 funding.

I am mainly wanting my fucking arm fixed. The surgeon has said I need surgery and its completely as a result of the primary injury.

How long should it take for my lawyer to organise a review of this decision? From my brief and rare conversation with the actual lawyer 5 or so weeks ago she said we needed to wait for extra evidence from my doctor. As of friday last week my doctor has not been contacted by my lawyer or their office.

My lawyer works part time and is constantly in court according to her clerk.

What am I supposed to do?

I want my arm fixed before the nerve damage becomes permernant. I have all the evidence the insurer didn't see due to the Christmas

Is this normal and im the annoying client that is hassling the lawers. Or am I being fucked around. Im annoyed no one told me the lawyer only works part time.

Thanks.

I realise this is alot of dribble and it probably makes little sense, this is my first time dealing with anything like this.
