Has anyone experienced moderate aphasia after a stroke and recovered almost completely?

My husband is 44 and is 3 weeks post stroke. He has moderate expressive aphasia, with difficulty finding and saying words, along with some trouble reading and writing. He understands most of what is said to him and can communicate basic phrases, but gets very frustrated when he knows what he wants to say but can’t get the words out.
He has started speech therapy last week. For those who have been through this: How long did your recovery take and what helped the most? Did you continue making significant improvements months or even years later?
I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences. ❤️

Looking for an excellent speech therapist in Queens for post-stroke global aphasia

My 44-year-old husband recently had a stroke and has global aphasia. I’m looking for recommendations for an excellent SLP who specializes in adult post-stroke aphasia, especially severe/global aphasia. Our current speech therapy program may not be the right fit, so I’d really appreciate personal recommendations from anyone who has had a great experience with an SLP in Queens or nearby NYC.

44 year old husband with global aphasia after stroke looking for experiences

My husband is 44 and recently suffered a stroke. He was just discharged and has global aphasia. Before the stroke, he worked in Private equity/finance and handled most of our household finances, so this has been incredibly scary for our family. We have two boys age 6 and 13 and one on the way.
For those who experienced severe/global aphasia:

When did you first notice significant speech improvement?
How much speech therapy did you receive and how often?
How was your speech at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months?
Did you eventually regain reading, writing and working with numbers?
Were you able to return to work, especially a professional/cognitively demanding job?
What helped you most emotionally and during recovery?

I know everyone is different. I’m just looking for real experiences and hope from people who have been through this. ❤️
