Trying to recreate Dunluce Castle (N. Ireland) as it looked 400+ years ago before it became a ruin.

Trying to recreate Dunluce Castle (N. Ireland) as it looked 400+ years ago before it became a ruin.

One of my favourite castles due to its position on the sea and how it built it's defenses to make the most of intersection between the sea, cliffs and land. It was the seat of the McQuillan's, & later the McDonnell's/MacDonald's.

In it's later history one of the galleass from The Spanish Armada was wrecked in a storm nearby and cannons from the ship were salvaged to bolster the castles defenses.

It's a particularly difficult castle to re-create as it fell into ruin after it was abandoned in 1690 and effectively was never again used as a defensive structure.

Disclaimer this was made with AI by taking blue prints/drawings of the old castle to recreate via clanrising.com/castles .

Top 10 Most powerful Irish Clans of all time

Let me know if I missed a clan/family I should have included or your thoughts on the order!

Notes on inclusion:
-I included overseas diaspora in list only if they were operating in a semi-cohesive unit (i.e. Kennedy's counted but Biden did not)
-The clan/family had to be powerful across multiple generations to be included

Had an attempt of mapping popular British and Irish last names to the county of their first use

Attempted to map British and Irish last names to the first known location mapped to British and Irish counties.

Notes:
I put 14th century as the floor for the name origin for accuracy reasons (i.e. if a name predated 14th century I just show the location of the name in 14th century as migrations prior to that period weren't as accurately documented.
I couldn't show every single family name in UK - so just picked top 200 most popular.

Let me know what you think!
