Specialized Stumpjumper 15 Alloy arrived with marks

Hi everyone,

My brand new Specialized Stumpjumper 15 Alloy arrived yesterday and I noticed several small dents/impressions and a few light scratches on the top tube and rear triangle right after unboxing.

The marks are:

visible in the paint,

slightly noticeable with a fingernail,

still completely blue (no bare aluminum showing),
I can’t really see an obvious dent in the aluminum itself.

I’m wondering if these are just paint/clear coat imperfections or if they could indicate that the frame itself was impacted.

The rear triangle has no marks but light scratches.

The reason I’m asking is that I’m probably a bit paranoid after what happened with my previous bike. Just last week I had to send back a brand new Scott Genius because what initially looked like harmless stone chips turned out to be a manufacturing defect where the rear triangle was rubbing against the frame and damaging the frame. So this whole experience has made me question every little mark on a new bike.

So I’d really like an honest opinion:

- Do these marks look purely cosmetic to you?

- Am I just overreacting because of my recent experience?

- If this were your brand new bike, would you keep it or ask for a replacement/compensation?

I’d really appreciate hearing what you would do in my situation.

Thanks!

Could my rear triangle be contacting the frame? New Scott Genius 930

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a second opinion before I send my bike back for inspection.

I recently bought a brand new Scott Genius 930 two days ago. After my very first ride (easy forest/gravel trail, no crashes or jumps) I noticed a small chip right next to one of the welds.

At first I assumed it was just a rock strike. However, after taking a closer look, I noticed that:

- the weld on that side seems noticeably thicker than on the opposite side,

- there is a matching paint mark on the rear triangle,

- and when I compress the suspension, it looks like the rear triangle gets extremely close to that weld. It even seems possible that the two parts are making contact.

I’m not saying this is definitely what’s happening, but the matching marks made me wonder if there could be an issue with the frame clearance or suspension movement.

I’ve already contacted the retailer and asked them to inspect the bike, but since this was a big purchase for me and I’m tripping out over this I’d really appreciate some opinions from people with more experience.

Does this look like:

- a normal rock strike,

- normal frame clearance,

- or something that should definitely not happen on a new bike?

Thanks a lot!

Small chip near weld on brand new aluminum frame (Scott Genius 930) – should I worry?

Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to mountain biking and just got my first “proper” bike yesterday, a Scott Genius 930 (2024, aluminum frame). It was a big purchase for me and I was super excited about it.

Today I took it out for its first ride on a normal forest/gravel trail (no jumps, nothing technical). Unfortunately, I got what looks like a small rock strike during the ride. It’s right next to a weld and it looks like a tiny bit of material/paint might be missing. The spot feels slightly sharp to the touch, which is what worries me.

I know bikes are meant to be ridden and cosmetic damage happens, but since it’s brand new and I’m still new to MTB, I can’t really judge how serious this is.

Does this look structurally harmless, or is damage near a weld something I should take more seriously?

I’m mainly wondering:
Is this just cosmetic / a paint chip?
Or could it be a potential weak point long-term?

I’d really appreciate opinions from more experienced riders or mechanics. Thanks a lot!

When to expect a new GRAND CANYON AL 5 for 2026?

Hey,

I just want get back to cycling and looking for a MTB, the GRAND CANYON AL5 looks like a good budget option but the canyon support couldn’t give me an answer, I’m wondering if anyone here knows when they roll out the new Models every year typically.
