i just want to buy an apple vision pro. why is checkout such a mess?

i finally ready to order one, but buying this thing has turned into a ridiculous side quest.

i’m ordering from another country, there is no even apple store. so timing matters. delivery currently says october 12. pickup would be much better, but the nearby stores show no available slots. the calendar only shows the next three days, so i can’t even see whether monday will open up later.

and the checkout forces me to book time with a specialist. i can’t skip that step, even though i’ve already done the face scan and sizing. i just want to pay online and show up to collect the headset.

also, apple’s site was so glitchy in safari that i couldn’t even build a cart. chrome worked, somehow.

why are pickup slots so limited? is this a stock issue, or are they just tied to specialist availability? has anyone managed to buy one online and pick it up on ur comfortable slot rather than booking only available one with a consultation??

i still want the headset, but this process is honestly killing the excitement. i just want to give apple €3,999 and pick up the thing without all this bullshit. if I will not be able to resolve it tomorrow I'm not even sure what to do, with such a mess bs process it looks easier to get new meta stuff lol or just don't purchase anything. I didn't expect this type of service quality from apple especially

how noticeable are the black FOV borders with a properly fitted Apple Vision Pro?

i'm thinking about buying an apple vision pro and i want to understand what the view inside the headset actually looks like, not a screen recording or an apple marketing shot. I have no option to check the real demo on Apple Store

but i found a real through-the-lens comparison https://kguttag.com/2024/02/16/apple-vision-pros-avp-image-quality-issues-first-impressions/
the left image shows what one eye sees with ZEISS inserts and a 25W light seal. it looks pretty circular and restrictive. but i realize that's not the same as the combined view from both eyes

also asked chatgpt to generate how it might look like, but I think its totally wrong lmao, crazy idea I know, but just tried to understand how it might be look like... its not even close to real experience, right?

https://preview.redd.it/xg4bfxz4e9gh1.png?width=1536&format=png&auto=webp&s=f3a574a74ccc5adc0d4f6e3a22963c921e7f13b5

another generated slop lol, is it close to reality or also totally missed it?

for people with a properly fitted light seal (or the wrong one, im interested in this case too, since I will rely fully on app calculations):

  1. when you look straight ahead, can you clearly see black borders around the image?
  2. does it feel like looking through binoculars, ski goggles, or just a frame way out at the edge of your vision?
  3. do you stop noticing the borders once you're watching a movie or working? especially when working with virtual display where no black background applied
  4. do you see any dark overlap or separation in the center?

Need help deciding on a first time purchase

id really like to hear from people about the use cases i'm considering the AVP for, and also about possible logistics and compatibility issues

the main problem:

AVP is only available in 13 countries where you can do a demo. the country i live in doesn't even have an official Apple store, and there's no way to try on the light seal for sizing.

my idea, and honestly the only option i have, is to use their app to scan my face over the course of a week at different times of day, under different lighting, and record all of it. maybe also take some extra face measurements and go over them with AI to minimize the risk of getting the wrong size. then just ask a friend to buy one abroad and bring it to me. has anyone done this? did you still end up with the wrong size?

the use cases i'm planning for:

  1. screen sharing my mac while using its keyboard and mouse as native to avoid input lag. still not sure if the display itself will lag though. mostly for work, slack, code editors, etc.

  2. i dream of playing the new GTA6 through PS remote play in the vision pro, hoping it'll be the best experience ever haha

  3. reading books and watching movies obviously, plus other entertainment

mostly i care about 1 and 2. will there be input lag when working with the mac or playing from PS? will there be any noticeable input lag at around 400 Mbps? what's your experience been with these use cases? does anyone use it for reading? i'm too lazy to get glasses so i get some eye strain working at my 34 inch monitor, but based on other comments in this subreddit I saw some people found it easier to work in the headset than at a real monitor. and of course the biggest risk is still getting the size right... that's my main concern since i'm afraid if the app makes a mistake it'll ruin the whole experience with the device

Stability issues with GLM (zai provider)

ok i bought the glm lite subscription for $16 and spent the last 3 days testing the model using zcode, claude code and pi agent

and i gotta say, the results were disappointing. don't get me wrong, the model itself is FUCKING GREAT, but at least 60% of tasks ended in failure. either rate limiting with claude code, or just connection drops, or limits through zcode

i used maybe 15-20% of my quota max, but looking at the cold hard facts, the official zai provider is extremely unreliable and i just can't rely on it for my work. i'd rather go use dumber codex/claude with their models or deepseek and know that their stability is way higher... at least they can complete responding to me lmao

is it just me or does everyone have these problems? i'm willing to pay them $120 for a plan if it works like a normal provider and not like a piece of shit that falls apart half the time and won't let me finish a task

Is it possible to let Hermes automatically control the /reasoning mode?

I'm currently using it via deepseek 4 flash with xhigh setup, but thinking if there is any way to optimize it even more. for example based on request automatically change the reasoning mode?
