Working on my first QoL mod to fix my biggest pet peeves. Thoughts on these feature ideas? Open to suggestions…
Hey y’all,
I am making my first Terraria mod, and I’m realizing that coding it isn't as intimidating as I originally thought! It started because I wanted a cleaner solution for building arenas and housing. Right now, the mod has a feature that showcases a build blueprint and automatically takes the necessary materials from your inventory (so it’s balanced, not just free blocks). It’s fully multiplayer-friendly and can easily load in schematics from mods like CheatSheet so it’s easy for me to add new structures.
I know massive mods like Fargo’s and LuiAFK exist, but I always felt they either didn't handle passive buff stations the way I preferred, or required way too much config toggling just to get them to behave like a background mod. My mod also includes a custom NPC that sells traps and other arena/farm building supplies. Since I'm quickly picking up the modding process, I want to expand this into a broader QoL/Content mod that addresses the minor annoyances I deal with.
Here is the list of unique features and items I’ve come up with so far and am currently implementing:
• Snake Oil Salesman (NPC) & Essential Oil Diffuser: The NPC sells the diffuser, which radiates your potion buffs to players within a specific range.
• Honey Perfume: An inventory item that applies the honey regeneration buff if favorited, saving you from building honey pockets everywhere.
• Deodorant: A consumable/usable item that temporarily removes NPC unhappiness penalties for 5 minutes.
• The Scalper (NPC): Sells everything the Traveling Merchant and Bone Merchant can sell (cycling based on time of day), but charges a massive premium (5x to 10x the price) to offset the convenience.
• Strongly Worded Letter: A tool that immediately cancels the current event. Tooltip: “The United Nations could learn from this.”
• Autopsy Needle: A rare/expensive consumable that guarantees the next enemy killed drops its entire loot pool.
• Dinner Bell: An item that increases the likelihood of enemies dropping food-related items upon death. Tooltip: “Suddenly everything looks edible.”
• Terrarian Woodcock (Pet): Spawns a mother bird and two babies that do their iconic dance while following you. Passively boosts the spawn rates of all worm species for bait farming.
• Weather Spawners: Clean items to manually trigger Sandstorms and Rain.
• Desktop/Industrial Fan: Placed or powered items that completely cancel the "Mighty Wind" debuff during storms. Tooltip: “Stolen from your local data center.”
• Pylon UI Tweaks: Allows you to instantly teleport directly to an NPC if they are near a functional pylon using the standard Vanilla UI.
• Red Hatted Voodoo Doll: A non-consumable way to spawn Skeletron.
• Money Trough equivalent for the Safe and Defender Forge
Calamity Mod Tweaks (Optional Add-on)
• Early Cosmolight: Available pre-Hardmode after defeating the Eye of Cthulhu. Functions like the old-school Cosmolight (only changes to the immediate beginning of day or night).
• Evil Vaccine: Allows the spawn items for the Hive Mind or Perforators to be obtained earlier, eliminating the RNG waiting game.
• Another Voodoo Doll???: Spawns Skeletron at night time
What do y’all think of my ideas so far?
Do yall have any suggestion that are must haves from other mods or ideas for features you have yet to see implemented?
