A beautiful ending to Death House.

A beautiful ending to Death House.

(Long post)

We finished Death House today and what a serious way to introduce the players to Barovia.

I was worried that my players would not pick up on Rose and Thorns desires to be buried in the crypt but prepared to let it go. They found the bones, they were possessed by the ghosts, they learned the terrible ending of being forgotten and starving to death, but never learned about what to do with the bones. Perhaps it was on me for not mentioning it and waiting for the players to ask.

They were all out of the house on the third floor balcony banged up or unconscious save one person. The warlock turns right before jumping through the swinging scythe and says “I’ll be right back”.

He dashes up the stairs through a hole in the wall, blasts a hole into the children’s room, dodging the rats and scoops up the bones, a faint tingle of excitement from Rose swells within him.

He asks her “what can I do for you?” And in response says “I wish for my brother to be buried in the crypt with mother and father.”

The warlock makes a B line for the balcony, jumping through the scythe and climbs down to meet the rest of the party. Nobody, I mean NOBODY dares renter the home.

Immediately, Rose throws a tantrum telling him she does not like it when people do not listen to her. She materializes and attacks along with Thorn.

The party cannot wrap their heads around wanting to be buried next to their parents that locked them up and starved them to death and basically in kids terms tells them they have Stockholm syndrome and there must be a place where they would feel at peace.

With a successful persuasion check after the bard cast Friends Rose calms and admits she always loved the apple tree on the hill her brother and her could see from their window. She dreamed about that tree, with its big branches and delicious looking apples. She recalls beams of sunlight hitting the tree in the afternoon and how lovely it looked.

She led the party to the tree where they found a long dead stump. They dug a grave for her and Thorn, finally laying them to rest and gaining a level up. It was amazing and I was not expecting it at all. Just wanted to share!

Printable Resources

Hello everybody! I purchased Curse of Strahd Revamped off a buddy of mine and it did not come with the Creatures of Horror booklet. This is included in the hardback edition but I do not want to purchase that if I don’t have to.

I also do not own the book on Beyond and as far as I know the Creatures of Horror was a special thing just for Revamped.

So I am hoping someone can point me in the direction to a printable resource that includes all the monsters not found in the monster Manual. Any help would be appreciated!

Looking for D&D players

I am actively looking for one or two players for our D&D group. We meet currently on Sundays in the afternoon, in person. We are all in our 30s and up.

I have been running games for going on three years and have a lot of experience putting on a great game.

If you are interested and can commit to a consistent weekly game, let me know!

Running with only two or three players

I poked around in the search function but couldn’t find anything. I’m sure it’s been asked before though.

I am preparing to start the campaign and right now I have two, maybe three players committed. They are not committed to any class yet but they are thinking wizard, bard and some kind of martial.

If I understand, the party will or has the ability to gain an ally but I was planning on giving them a sidekick using Tasha’s rules as I’ve done it before and they work well. This will not be A DMPC. It will be a normal sidekick and will be ran by the players.

I’m fairly experienced with 5/5.5e. Encounter difficulty is not a concern.

Is the module doable with 2 or 3 players and a sidekick? Has anyone ran the module like this?

To be honest three players sounds like a dream compared to my other game with six.

Drow house resources

Hello. Looking for resources for the drow city Menzoberanzen. Mainly a map of the inside of a drow house. Or details of what is within one.

My D&D party has been captured and taken to the drow city and to one of the drow houses to go to trial for their crimes against the drow (I’ll spare you the details lmao).

I am using mostly Out of the Abyss for this part of our campaign but it doesn’t really go into detail about what the inside a drow house looks like.

Long story short, they are locked inside separate cells and one party member is dead but the drow have cast gentle repose on her in preparation to cast speak with dead to stand trial (I know you don’t need gentle repose for this. The players all think the drow will bring her back so it’ll be a nasty surprise for them when they don’t).

In the event they attempt to escape from the prison (again unlikely because the drow have all their items) I want to be ready. Can anyone assist with any details of what would be inside a drow house? Appreciate everyone!

For what it’s worth, the party is six characters all level 14.

Help grow the Wichita Falls TTRPG/D&D community!

The amount of D&D/TRRPG social media groups for the Wichita Falls area is pretty sparse. I have created a space for DMs & players alike to gather, network, and most importantly find people to play the game with. If you are a TTRPG advocate or just a casual player please consider joining so we can grow the community. If you know someone who loves D&D, please share with them to help spread the word. Looking For Campaign Introduction Ideas

Hello everybody!

TLDR: outside the three provided story hooks, how did you get your game going? Did you do anything exciting during the first session?

I have a few months before starting our CoS journey, mainly waiting for the new Ravenloft stuff to drop then we will start. And I’m just brainstorming how to kick off the campaign.

I am toying around with ideas to get the party to Barovia and while the three hooks provided by the module are great I am wanting to make it a bit more fun. Inspired by the new Dungeon Masters show, I am wanting to introduce the players characters in a fun and exciting way that gets them into the action right away.

One idea I have (ripped from the show mentioned above) is to get the players right into it mid battle with something. They are already a team, they know each other and are seasoned adventurers. Playing around with the idea that they are level 10. As the battle rages and they start to fall, they are enveloped by the mist and appear in Barovia as level 1 adventurers.

So my question: how did you introduce your players to the campaign outside the three provided hooks?

TLDR: looking for reworked statblocks for monsters not found in the 5.5 monster manual (monsters custom to CoS). Also looking for discussion on the daylight spell and how the 5.5 version has changed the dynamic of the module. Please no “just play 2014”. That’s not an option.

Background: been running home brewed campaigns for a few years now. Recently started a new table in person and I don’t have time to run two home brews. Curse of Strahd has always intrigued me and after discussing with my players, they believe they would enjoy it.

I’m sure this topic has been discussed in depth. Im very familiar with 5.5 rules and am not concerned with the rules themselves or how to play out CoS with 5.5 rules. My question revolves around the monsters not found in the monster Manual.

Are there any reworked statblocks for these monsters? I can convert them myself but that increases the amount of prep time.

Second question: how has the 5.5 version of the Daylight spell changed the dynamic of the campaign? It now specifically states it creates an area of sunlight. From my understanding (I have not started reading the module yet) there are a few items the players need (or can) obtain to make defeating Strahd a bit easier but these items are basically not needed which the 5.5 version of Daylight. I don’t have a problem stating we will be using the 2014 version of the spell, just curious how others have handled it. I want to have a for sure ruling on it before we start.

Thanks for your help and I really look forward to continued discussion as we play through the module!
