If there was a tier above Gold (Platinum?) would you go for it, even if there was zero reward?

Title. For Licenses, Circuit Experience and the odd Weekly "Challenge" how much effort would you put into striving for the highest tier accomplishment even if all the maximum benefits (Cars, Credits) were paid out at a lower threshold?

Side-By-Side Performance Comps are Weirdly Entertaining.

I've been splitting hairs over which car I like more for WTC 600 Nürburgring runs; the '01 911 (996) or '97 Supra RZ. The Supra's tail wags just enough to give some fizz and it's extremely low short-shift makes it more of a challenge. The 911 is more of an illicit chemical - making all it's power at redline and requiring 100% of your focus whenever you come close to the brakes.

This is how GT7 spoils drivers rotten.

USB Backup of Cosmetics & Etc.

Greetings all,

I'm looking for first-hand knowledge of USB backup of GT7 data.

I'm quite aware that a lot of game data is stored server-side (cars, tunes, game progression). However; for client-side data that is not shared to the showcase (specifically: replay saves, liveries/styles, decals, scapes photos etc.); does a system backup of "Saved Data" to USB include all these items?

https://preview.redd.it/cv5i2hnsvedh1.png?width=741&format=png&auto=webp&s=edd8cfb910c3f1a8043522b142341e4f5ca774a7

And, if known, is this backed up data transferrable to another system, to include PS4->PS5->PS5Pro, or is the backed up data bespoke to that system and non-transferrable?

Thank you!

Subreddit Update.

Greetings drivers and vehicle artists.

The Subreddit has had an update.

  • Video comments are now turned on for all users.
  • Due to some confusion regarding reposts/crossposts/duplicate posts, posts of (nearly) the same topic already recently discussed on the subreddit will be referred to as "Repeat Posts" and the flagging tools have been updated for the next "Which car to use for the Tokyo 600?"

https://preview.redd.it/upc2xxfdh3ch1.png?width=410&format=png&auto=webp&s=39ed7326121540c5d32fb7eb3aef2236a85c3ff7

  • Not all repeat posts are bad.
  • Some rules have been combined to reduce the total number of rules. Permissions and prohibitions remain unchanged.
  • Anyone who would like to hold/promote a community-open event, likely after the FIFA world cup, please contact Mods via ModMail. Subject line: Community Event.

r/GranTurismo7 Video Comments.

All,

Reddit is getting a solid update which includes the ability to add video comments. You'll probably see this feature on some other subreddits, so I'm just taking this opportunity to get ahead of the news.

This is an awesome feature for all users subreddits* but one that can be easily abused as well. I've not had a chance to discuss this feature with my fellow moderators so, until this happens, do not expect subreddit-wide changes to how you can interact with posts in the comments.

For the moment, I've enabled this feature to a few Approved Users who have an EXTENSIVE history on the subreddit, 5,000+ community Karma and no current or former rules violations of the "Respect and Manners" or "Illegal Content" type.

Once the Mod team has digested how this feature works, looked into how some other, similar subreddits are handling the feature and had a conversation about possible wider implementation, we'll update this policy and implementation again.

Please note: Access to "All Users," irrespective of community karma, reddit age, or mutes/bans/removals is highly unlikely.

Dr. Speedlove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying & Love the Transmission Interface

The Transmission Interface is a beautiful and wonderful thing. It was developed at Abarth, a company widely reputed to design things that have comical practicality but deliver excellent results when applied properly. This post will attempt to cover one way to properly use it for optimization **in an extremely long-winded but thorough manner.**

https://preview.redd.it/wss92tt9vq4h1.png?width=478&format=png&auto=webp&s=ffda8e52303cfcce77bcbb9131ce416294dab831

-------------

Contents/Parts:

  1. Transmission interface overview (what all those numbers mean)
  2. Aligning your transmission to its engine
  3. (A future post) Aligning your transmission to the track/conditions
  4. (A future post) The right transmission to max your Performance for Performance Point cost
  5. (A future post) To AT or not to AT, that is the question.

-------------

Part 1: Transmission Overview

Most people coming to this subreddit are aware of the basic function of the transmission in a (racing) vehicle: to properly deliver engine torque and power to the driven axels for optimum acceleration, speed (and efficiency, when required). Taking this for granted, let's now look at the interface.

P.1 One of PD's \"baseline\" cars, the '20 Toyota Supra RZ (with 4 weight reductions and a wing)

In Picture 1. (P.1) the interface is shown with the stock transmission. The "important" figures and notables are highlighted, and explained below.

  1. (Yellow) Speed, in km/h, that an automatic transmission will shift up into the next higher gear
  2. (Orange) Upper Automatic Threshold - point at which an automatic transmission will shift into the next highest gear (in this case, 6200) - this number is sometimes confused with the engine redline, however, the two RPM points are not exclusive to one another in most cases
  3. (Blue) Lower Automatic Threshold - point at which, when falling below this threshold, an automatic transmission will change down into the next lower gear
  4. (Pink) Baseline/Idle RPMs (in this case 1000) and inferred/projected RPM points based on the upper shift point and baseline

From this information we can reliably infer that this car will, for example, shift up from 4th gear into 5th at 145km/h at 6200RPM and drop from 5th into 4th at apx. 4000RPM when using an automatic transmission. Also note that the final gear, 8th, has no upper limit as there is no further gear to shift up into. Once in this gear, if you exceed a certain speed, the RPM limiter will intervene, cutting power and prohibiting further acceleration.

Of course, when using a manual transmission, most of these points are just a reference. The driver may want to shift up early, prior to 6200RPM (aka "short-shifting") or ride the gear longer with respect to the AT shift points, each for various reasons.

^(NOTE 1: Since the baseline/idle RPMs is not actually shown, we must take this information from one of the engine power interfaces, such as the ECU:)

P.2 Normal ECU for the '20 Supra - 1000 RPM idle speed

^(NOTE 2: You cannot change the displayed speed - yellow - for gear ratios from kph to mph. Additionally, first gear may be manipulated to a point where the indicated speed is not accurate. This is covered in more detail in Part 3.)

----------

Part 2: Aligning your transmission to its engine

To properly couple a transmission to its engine, you're going to need to get some details about the engine first. For the purposes of this guide, we'll be referencing two examples. One with lower-peak RPM power and one with rather extreme high-RPM power.

P.3 Example power: small difference in destination, big difference in journey

A full, bespoke discussion can be had on how these two cars make their power, and how each can be beneficial. However, as far as it relates to the transmission, we're really only interested in the power peaks and the length of the useful portion of the power curve.

First, lets recognize a few important aspects of each.

Now, lets look at each car's stock transmissions, with some of the lines of important figures projected on them.

P.4 Always consider how your car makes its power.

If you're using an automatic transmission for each of these cars:

  • For the Supra
    • The AT will shift up into the next gear well after you've left the most useful portion of your power curve
    • The AT will never utilize peak power in 4th, 5th, or 6th gears
    • To remedy this, the player must use a manual transmission and short-shift (with respect to the AT's shift points) to get anywhere near the optimal performance for this engine specification
  • For the GT-R
    • The AT will shift up into the following gear fairly appropriately but may be sacrificing a portion (~1/6) of the best bandwidth from 7419 to ~7600 RPM in gears 1 through 5
    • The AT will shift down appropriately and the driver will be able to utilize peak power in each and every gear
    • It is suggested to use a fully customizable transmission should the driver want to optimize their performance

For tuning a customizable transmission (Full Custom Racing, or Full Custom Manual) to it's engine, we'll focus on the Supra. When one of these transmissions is equipped to the GT-R, the default gear ratios align fairly well with the power delivered by the engine, so the differences and changes to the ratios are comparatively quite small. Whereas on the Supra, they are drastic and offer a better illustration of how a player should approach changing them.

First, lets get this out of the way: The Fully Custom Manual and the Fully Custom Racing are identical in how the player interfaces with them. The AT shift point will be the same for both, the number of ratios and how they're laid out will all be identical.

The difference in the two - besides upfront Cr. and Performance Point costs - is that the Fully Custom Racing transmission has significantly less simulated internal drag and increased responsiveness (it shifts faster) compared to the Full Custom Manual. This will be evident in calculated acceleration values when changing between the two.

P.5 (Supra) 0.3 seconds from 100-150kph is a HUGE performance gap.

Second, Always take the "Automatically Adjusted Top Speed" (AATS) input for what it is: absolute garbage. Never rely on the figure produced by this slider. It's a useful slider. But it is wildly misleading.

P.6 (Supra) 300kph based on a RPM level that is wholly useless for this engine.

For most players, the next few steps are often done through good-old-fashioned testing.
It is explained through the use of graphics not available in game, but they offer an illustration for the process. Once you've developed a "feel" for the right settings, the entire experiment becomes second nature.

Third, the clever tuner will always apply their desired RPM levels to the transmission by projecting, assuming or inferring where the gear ratio line crosses the desired RPM line. This is done for the 1st gear and the highest gear (6th, in the example) and then all other gears are manipulated with relation to those two.

^(PLEASE NOTE that this "generic" shift point of 6kPRMs is a bit high for this car [Supra]. A more appropriate shift point for all gears is closer to 5.3k for a bit better acceleration - -0.2s, 0-1000m - while also being more fuel efficient. But for illustration's sake, 6k was chosen.)

For this example, a guesstimate of our desired 1st gear top speed is 110kph and our overall (6th gear) top speed is 300kph which we want to reach at 5kRPM, and all other gears ending before their high-85%-of-peak point (6kRPM).

The default AATS for 300kph is this:

P.7 300kph AATS Default

In order to manipulate these ratios into something usable we have to visualize and project quite a bit. For our purposes, we need to 1) conceive of 110 at 6kRPM and 300kph at 5kRPM in space and 2) imagine that *the 7207 line is now 6k.*

We'll start by ensuring 1st gear can get well (30-40kph) above our desired 110kph point.

P.8 First gear tops out at 121kph

Since it cannot, we'll exit this interface and draw out the AATS setting to 500.

P.9 Your 1st gear min/max speed is often determined by the AATS setting

Fourth, we'll imagine/project some kph points (or for the purposes of this guide, drawing) a vertical line down from that point. Note that the left-hand "wall" of this area is always 0kph, and the right-hand "wall" is always, always, always 400kph. Therefore, you guessed it, the middle-point is 200kph.

Now its time to imagine/project (draw) our RPM values and align the gears with our desired RPM points (1st crossing 110kph at 6K, and 6th crossing 300kph at 5k).

P.10 Wishlist: if only PD had put a full grid in here, this would be so much easier

Once the remaining gears are spread out relatively equidistant from each other between 1st and 6th, we can assume the transmission is roughly tuned for the engine power.

Fifth, Track time! Take your ride out to SSRX and set up a custom race against a single opponent, with a Grid (standing) Start.

P.11 Basic settings.

Tip: disregard whatever tires you plan to use for racing the vehicle, and equip some Racing tires that won't spin, if testing a high-powered vehicle. You won't be able to visualize your first gear shift, if you don't.

Set your view to bumper cam, so you can see a perfect representation of your RPMs.

P.12 Looking for 300KPH at 5K

It looks like the guestimate was just a bit off. 300kph was reached at close to 5.2kRPMs; extending 6th to 0.598 / 455 nailed it.

-------

Hopefully this helps some of you get a better hold on tuning your transmission for the engine power. In the not-too-distant future I'll cover the other three parts (aligning your transmission to the track/conditions; the right transmission to max your Performance for Performance Point cost; to AT or not to AT, that is the question) in detail.

Watching Music Replays for Tire and Suspension (Ab)Uses is Zen.

The Music Replay is quite a gem that is, unfortunately, difficult to set up for its most useful feature: observing how the tires and suspension cope with the track.

Worth the effort?

There is somewhere north of 40 different camera angles that can be applied to a fixed position relative to the car, but they seem to be chosen at random, and can only be easily altered by [up/down] d-pad selection of another car then returning to the desired vehicle. This is only after the selection gives you a one-in-three chance of the fixed-position replay (not cockpit or overhead)

If you've got a nice, high-end rig with a DD wheel and perhaps a subwoofer in your seat, chances are good you're feeling a lot of the feedback in the suspension and tires and rifling through all the camera angles noted above probably isn't worth your time. However, if you're on controller, or just in an office chair as I am, there's probably some wisdom to be gained from getting a good look at how your suspension and tires cope with kerbs (and sausages when present).

IMO, the view shown in the video above is perfect. You can get a sense of body pitch, yaw & oscillation, tire bounce, suspension travel, tire deformation, and the circumstances that provoke under/oversteer and if the driver under/over compensated for it. Well worth the 5-10 minutes of finagling the interface to get the camera angle.

Enforcement of Rules; Purpose of r/GranTurismo7

All,

Today, December 28th, 2025, two posts were taken down that specifically, negatively highlighted the nationalities of players in multiplayer aspects of the game.

These types of posts (*and comments) are not permitted.

*They have never been allowed. This is not a new rule or new, altered enforcement of a rule.

We enforce the carefully considered rules with the ethos of the subreddit in mind: "...bespoke for drivers, creators and car enthusiasts who enjoy high-quality GT7 content and a supportive, positive community."

There is NOTHING that benefits drivers, creators or enthusiasts by calling out persons who fly certain flags.

There is NOTHING that is supportive or positive by shit-posting a generalized group of players.

-----------

  1. If players/members of r/GranTurismo7 want to start an online petition to encourage PD to change/alter the penalty system within the game, r/GranTurismo7 will be happy to pin a link and communicate with other high-volume GT7-related communities ( r/GranTurismo, r/SimRacing, r/whoever... *even off site - YouTubers, Leagues...) to point players to it.
  2. If players/members of r/GranTurismo7 desire a database or spreadsheet within these walls that specifically lists consistently dirty/predatory drivers, that can be maintained in a relatively simple manner, the moderators of r/GranTurismo7 will be happy to support and host such a thing. Player name, PSN ID*; DR;SR, times seen - we'll post it all, so long as there's conclusive video evidence of foul play*. One thing that will not be highlighted is the nationality of the player.

I, and the rest of the Mod team, are all eyes for proposals on how to accomplish singling out dirty players and prohibit/mitigate their interference in play.

However, it seems that there is less appetite for proposing/making solutions in areas that players actually control - not wishlisting - than generalizing bad actors by nationality. And that's not what this subreddit is for.

End of discussion.

Mod Team.
