IS GT7 A FULL SIM NOW?

Is GT7 Now a Full Sim?
I’ve only done two races and some qualifying since the new update, so these are very early impressions. I’m definitely not ready to say the new physics are better or worse yet, but the difference in the physics, tire model and force feedback immediately stood out to me.

For context, I currently use a Logitech G Pro wheel with GT7 and have been using it for over a year. The Honda NSX GT500 ’00 has been my favorite car since release, and at this point I know this car intimately. I drive it more than anything else, including in Gr.3 races under BoP where it’s often at a disadvantage compared with the newer cars.
I also did a race after the update in the NSX Gr.3 ’17 to see if what I was feeling was specific to the GT500. It wasn’t.
The first thing I noticed was the force feedback. It feels dramatically different.
There seems to be more play in the steering wheel when going straight. Going over bumps and curbs, I can actually feel the wheel moving and almost hopping in my hands. Before, the steering felt much more planted. Now the wheel seems much more alive and I find myself having to work with it more through certain corners.

The difference was big enough that I increased GT7’s FFB setting from 7 to 8. The new 8 feels closer in overall strength to what 7 felt like before—maybe something like an old 7.5—but the actual information coming through the wheel feels completely different.
The tire feedback is probably the biggest change.
There is significantly more tire squeal now. What surprised me is that I’m even hearing it while gently coasting through some corners without feeling like I’m attacking the tire at all. Under the previous physics, that amount of tire noise would have made me think I was much closer to the limit.

Racing Softs also don’t feel like the Racing Softs I’m accustomed to. In some ways they remind me more of how the old Mediums felt.

The previous tire model was honestly more fun for me, at least based on my first couple of races. There was a security to the car, especially on Racing Softs, that allowed me to really attack it.
But more fun doesn’t necessarily mean more realistic.

And this is where things get interesting.

The NSX GT500 actually seems to turn in better now, particularly in slow corners.
This car has always rotated extremely slowly at low speed under the previous physics. I’ve spent a huge amount of time learning how to work around that with trail braking, brake bias, gear selection and throttle control. I’ve never driven an NSX in real life, so I can’t say how accurately GT7 was representing it, but I’ve always wondered whether the GT500 really should have been that reluctant to rotate.

Now the front seems more willing to turn in.
The car also seems more stable over curbs and when applying throttle. At Yas Marina, for example, I used to have to be very careful applying throttle through the chicane because being too aggressive could quickly rotate the car and potentially spin it. Under the new physics, I’m finding more stability there.
Braking has changed considerably too.
My old braking markers in the GT500 are suddenly too early.

At Yas Marina, I’m having to move my braking point closer to the chicane because the GT500 seems capable of stopping considerably better than it did before.
At the same time, though, the overall lap times appear slower.

Immediately before the update, I had qualified at Yas Marina in the GT500 with a 1:57.752 on Racing Softs.
My first qualifying lap under the new physics was around a 2:02.

Obviously, that’s nowhere near enough testing to draw conclusions about ultimate pace or whether the GT500’s BoP has changed for better or worse. I’m basically having to relearn braking points and how the car responds.

I also jumped into the NSX Gr.3 ’17, and again I noticed considerably more feedback, particularly over the curbs. That makes me think what I’m experiencing isn’t simply something that changed with the GT500.
I’ve never driven an NSX in real life, so I’m not going to pretend I know exactly how one should behave at the limit. I have, however, been on a racetrack in a GT-R in real life.

And the last sim I played that wasn’t Gran Turismo 7 was Le Mans Ultimate using a Simagic wheel.
Today I use the Logitech G Pro exclusively with GT7, so I’m not trying to make a direct wheel-to-wheel comparison between the two setups. But having experienced LMU with a Simagic DD wheel gives me another reference for what a more hardcore simulator can feel like.

I’m not saying GT7 suddenly feels exactly like Le Mans Ultimate. It doesn’t.
But the amount of information I’m now receiving through the Logitech G Pro—the movement over bumps, the curb feedback, the tire behavior, the lighter feeling around center, and the way the wheel seems to load and unload—makes GT7 feel noticeably more like a full simulator to me than it did before.
That’s probably the biggest impression I’m getting from this update.

Is GT7 now a full sim?

I don’t know yet.
I’m also not necessarily saying that I prefer it. After only two races, I actually preferred the previous physics from a pure enjoyment standpoint because the cars felt more secure and I had more confidence attacking them.

But if this new tire and physics model is actually a closer representation of what these cars are doing underneath you, I’m completely willing to relearn the game.

Because purely in terms of sensation, GT7 suddenly feels much closer to a full sim to me.

There is more happening through the steering wheel. I’m getting more information from the tires. I’m feeling bumps and curbs differently. My braking references have changed. The GT500 rotates differently. And I’m having to actively work with the steering wheel in situations where previously it just felt planted.
For those of you using DD wheels—and especially anyone who has real track experience or also drives sims like Le Mans Ultimate—what are you feeling after this update?

Does GT7 actually feel more realistic to you now?
Or does it simply feel different?

This can’t be right. Turning the wheel 180 degrees and slamming the throttle 100% every turn at Yas Marina. Lap time 2:00

This new update feels like it’s completely broken the game. It’s now near impossible to spin. I can do absolutely everything wrong and still come within 10 seconds of the best lap time at Yas Marina.

Holy Crap this PSSR 2 update !!

Overdue by many months now but WOW this looks amazing !

I know most of you here aren't Pro users so you won't give a crap, but this is awesome, can't wait to see the difference in PSVR2 as well...

I have my PS5 Pro hooked up to 2 displays via an HDMI splitter, 1 is for couch gaming on my 77 inch OLED and the other goes to my sim rig 42 inch OLED..

And even from the couch there is a noticeable difference in clarity, straight up passes for Native 4k now...

And improved FPS and that weird shimmer effect you would get in certain places like GT Auto is almost completely eradicated, barely visible !

Also there used to be this minimal black smear or ghosting effect most noticeable in cockpit view as you're turning about the track you could see black dark smear coming off the A Pillars, NO MORE !!

Tokyo 600 1.71 Physics

Hey gang, I'd seen a few posts looking for help earlier this week, and I mentioned the RX500 was a fun and solid contender. I was able to use RH tires, and not go below 75% fuel on FM1, with a top speed of ~180mph. No pit 🤙I will add tune in comments.

I enjoy the new physics a lot :)

New Physics are Bangin' Mate

I don't normally post shite like this but I just wanted to say that if you're a controllist (controller user) and struggling with the new physics then try to stick with it! I'm on a controller and was struggling to even post a clean lap of Daytona 24hr.

Admittedly, I was doing the Power Pack historic race there in the Ford GT (the slowest pre-made car) and I have always struggled with the circuit anyway, but Christ in a racecar was I struggling. However, lapping and lapping during the practice session slowly let me get used to the new fisiks. After utilising the full hour of the practice sesh, during the qualifying sesh it suddenly clicked with me and now I'm absolutely loving the new physics and controller controlling. Poll pos and a race win were not expected during the first half hour of practice, but they both happened! Plus I found that racing side by side with the Sophie 3.0 AI was cleaner, easier and much more exciting now!

Moral of the story - circuit and vehicle practice help. Who knew.

Point of the story - if you're struggling to get a hang of the new fyizics then try treating it like a whole new game. Take time to know her, as they say.

Realistic physics?

So this happened while playing today, guess the carbon ceramic brakes are too powerful for this car? And no, I didn't mess with th brake balance.

That New Fresh Feeling!!

Just an FYI, this is my personal opinion. I'm just going off of what I feel, and I'm not a professional driver on GT7. I don't have a steering wheel; I use the GamePad, but I still have a blast with this game.

I can definitely feel a huge difference in the physics model with Update 1.71, and honestly, it’s amazing. I’ve been racing the Weekend Challenge — the 600 PP Tokyo Express race — and I’ve been trying to find the right car for it. Usually, if I can tell pretty quickly that a car just isn’t going to be competitive, I’ll quit the race and start looking for something else.

But this time was completely different. I could actually feel the difference in the physics. It’s hard to explain, but the entire game feels different to me — almost like playing a new game.

And the new tire simulation is absolutely incredible. I literally went 12 laps without having to pit, even with the tire wear set to ×14! I was honestly shocked.

I’m not always the best at putting these things into words, but all I can say is that I’m genuinely blown away. The game feels so much better now. It really needed a change to the physics, and Polyphony absolutely delivered with this update.

You just have to experience it for yourself to understand what I mean. GT7 feels better than it ever has.

Finally got my S-10 gold

Was on a license grind in May and took a break because S-10 crushed my soul with silver after a whole day. Came back after the physics update + what I've picked up since, and about 45min later knocked it out and only have one trophy left, three cars. Just bought the most expensive one recently, 1st $20M car.

AFK Post Update 1.71 Changes to be aware of and easy fixes.

As by now most are aware that the latest update (1.71) for GT7 came with some very significant changes to the physics:

https://www.gran-turismo.com/us/gt7/news/00_3638095.html

This has created quite a reaction, mostly positive… but what’s a GT7 update without some piling on the complaints… 🫣

https://www.reddit.com/r/GranTurismo7/s/hVexDT5HqO

https://www.reddit.com/r/granturismo/s/UFMM2Qg4Hr

Regardless of how someone feels about the update, at the very least this will keep the tuning community extremely active for quite some time. 😅

There have been some claims that the AFK method was nerfed by this… and on the surface it would appear that way… but fear not, it just requires a slight change to your setup.

So with the change in the physics modeling, the PP numbers changed for many cars as well, including the Honda Beat; likely the most popular car for AFK due to its fast AFK lap times and being able to get it’s PP below 300 for optimum payouts. Yes, the Honda S660 can get more per lap because you can get its PP below 200, but it’s slower so the payout per hour is better with the Beat… However, if you don’t have the Beat and or can’t do an engine swap, the S660 is an excellent alternative.

The Honda Beat’s PP went up just enough to go over the 300pp mark after the update, which apparently some thought effectively nerfed that car for AFK. That isn’t at all the case.

[PIC #1] Old low PP

[PIC #2] Post Update low PP

Yes, if you couldn’t get the PP below 300, the payout would drop 24% from 14.2k (21.3k w/CRB) per lap, down to 10.8k (16.2k w/CRB).

[PIC #3] Payout if using a car over 300pp

However, by simply switching the Turbocharger to High-RPM it brings it back down below 300.

[PIC #4] Adjusted Turbocharger

So this one small adjustment returns the payouts back to what they were before the update.

The Tomahawk’s PP also went up, but not enough to change the payouts.

[PIC #5] Old PP

[PIC #6] New PP

However, with these changes to the physics, the tune for the Honda Beat as it was, is now about 2 seconds slower per lap than before the update. 2 seconds is hardly what I would call nerfing… but depending on how you have the Tomahawk 7th gear set to, you will likely want to adjust it if you had it set above 250. I had mine set to 255 as this way my car will pass them all by the start of lap 3, and never lap the main field thus avoiding the risk of an impact that causes my car to leave the track and thus lose the CRB.

So my first test, I kept the Tomahawk’s settings unchanged and ran my typical 11 lap race (as this is the min for a Daily Marathon):

[PIC #7] 11 Lap Race Settings

[PIC #8] Results

[PIC #9] CRB

[PIC #10] Lap Times

It took longer to pass all the Tomahawks, and they nearly passed me by the end of the 11th lap.

So I changed the 7th gear to 1.430/245 and ran a few traditional 30 lap test runs (as that’s the longest race with the max per lap that you can run). Every race went just perfectly. Safely passed all the Tomahawks and held the lead the entire time without every lapping them, resulting in CRB wins each time. And only took a little over a minute compared to before the Update.

[PIC #11] Changed Tomahawk’s 7th Gear settings

[PIC #12] Traditional 30 lap AFK race settings

[PIC #13] Result on Guest Account

[PIC #14] CRB

[PIC #15] Result on 2nd Guest Account

[PIC #16] CRB

So to sum it all up, yes the update changed how to best run AFK, but requires very little change and per hour you are only getting slightly less than before, still in the 1.5m per hour range.

[PIC #18] My Settings for the Honda Beat (low PP page 2)

[PIC #19] My Settings for the Honda Beat (AFK Fast page 1)

[PIC #20] My Settings for the Honda Beat (AFK Fast page 2)

EDIT: I forgot to add the last two pics… 🤦‍♂️

Here they are: https://www.reddit.com/r/GranTurismo7/s/nHoyntpL4R

Hope you all are enjoying GT7 as much as I am, and not getting worked up over artificial economies, or treating a game like it’s a job. GT7 is a sandbox game for car enthusiasts, and with the time you can save from not having to grind away on the same races against the same AI, with the same results… instead, you can use that time to find what you love to do in the game, and do it! 🍻

This is the most impressive update to me by far

I haven’t had the chance to explore everything yet but coming from a controller player, the physics/tire updates make the game so much more enjoyable now. I feel I have way more control over my cars and what I want to do drifting wise and that makes the game for me…Now I just need to a open world area Please Ponyphony

Got a little too excited with the Seven

Apologies to Monsieur Aubert in the White RCZ GT Line, I did not mean to drive directly up your rear end

What’s the deal with the new engine swap?

Why would anyone put a Jimny engine at 63 BHP in a Caterham that already has 263? Even fully modded it would still be less powerful. It’s also more expensive than the actual car.

u/OffRedFloyd — 21 hours ago

Used Car Dealer appreciation post!

I just want to say how much I love the used car dealership! I love it more than the Legends car dealership, because the some of the UCD cars are legends themselves. All these cars with low mileage! This update was great because it didn’t drain my low balance of credits.

u/mac_g313 — 12 hours ago

Are you excited for this update?

I’ve always been into cars like Honda Civic and Accord coupes and sedans that have that classic Fast & Furious vibe, along with Volkswagen Jettas. I’m also really into 3rd-generation Camaros and Trans Ams, especially cars like the Firehawk. Basically, I’m drawn to the kinds of cars that everyday people could realistically buy and then customize, modify, and soup up to make their own. I guess 2 of these cars could be like that...Whats your thoughts on this update?

After 4 years, i tried the livery editor

As the title suggests. I’m a lazy guy, i’ll be honest about that. Using community-liveries has been my go-to since release. At last, i decided to give it a shot. Inspired by the Piet Mondrian artwork, and an hommage to the car i race irl (not a GT3R, obviously).
Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated, considering this is my first ever livery.
For those interested, the livery is available to download under the title “Piet Mondrian Art Car Concept” by user Piekepoep.
