Korra's Airbending journey

Air is the element of freedom.

Korra lived a secluded life in white lotus compound where she didn't have that much freedom. Even after she ran away to Republic city, she was only able to stay in the city because Tenzin allowed it and she was even restricted to the air temple island. Only after she took her own decision to complete her match despite Tenzin's disapproval, she truly achieved her freedom. Only after that she even moved like an Airbender.

Spirituality :

Airbenders were highly spiritual. Korra didn't have anything going on in the compound. It was too stale of an environment to experience something different like a spiritual experience. Her first drastic experience was feeling of fear and powerlessness after witnessing Amon's power. Korra accepting the fear and overcoming that was her first step into her spiritual growth. Only after that she had a vision of Aang's past. After meditation, she was able to see the whole thing.

Air chakra deals with love.

When Korra confessed her feelings to Mako, she was denied. After her kidnapping ,Mako also started reciprocating her feelings but she acted distant. She unlocked her airbending when Mako was in danger.

Did Amon expect for the avatar to come to the Republic city after finishing all of the training? which means most likely a fully realized Avatar.

Did he have that much confidence in his bloodbending to take on a fully realized Avatar even after knowing what happened to his father because of Aang?

or

He expected the Avatar in training to arrive in the city, if the council felt overwhelmed by the equalists and asked the Avatar's help to deal with equalists.

The first thing Korra did after she decided to run away to the Republic City was telling her parents about her decision. She trusted her parents to believe in her decision even though it was against the wishes of her masters except Katara.

So when she found out her dad was lying to her and keeping secrets from her she must have felt like her dad didn't put the same trust in her like she did. That's why she got so angry and upset with her father.

Tonraq could have said he was waiting for the right moment or for Korra to become an adult so that she would understand it better. But his statement "He didn't tell her because he was protecting her from the shame he brought on" implied that he had no intention of telling her about that ever.
