Child support hearing in TN
Hey Reddit! I am the mom of a three year old with my ex. Long story short, I screwed up. A lot. His dad was given temporary custody and I was ordered to pay $300 a month child support last March. I was busy being a POS drug addict and in and out of treatment. This past March I went back to court for non payment and was ordered to start making payments or face 10 days in jail. Three weeks later I went back to treatment and was on blackout/not able to work for three weeks. The program emailed the court with proof I was there and told them I would be able to start seeking employment this week. I am now in a sober living and doing just that. I called the court last week and they said they wouldn't give me a continuance + a chance to start making payments unless I provided proof of employment (understandably so) but I called back Friday and the lady said I should be able to make a payment and to call back Monday when my cases worker was there. My question is. What can I do? Is it better to make a small payment or two before I go to court or wait until I can make a bigger one? Is there anything I can do to get a continuance? Jail would be incredibly detrimental to my recovery progress right now, I have two job interviews this week. Sorry this is all over the place. Any advice is appreciated.
