Open bite quickly got worse after crown - jaw surgery or just braces?
Has anyone had a similar experience? How did it turn out for you? I had my orthodontist consultation today and was shocked he referred me to an oral surgeon.
I had braces in highschool and no open bite before, just crooked teeth. By age 29 my teeth had moved a little but I never had any issues. I ended up with a really tiny open bite on my front 4 teeth but my molars closed perfectly.
3 years ago I had to get a crown on one molar (no root canal) and I think it ruined my mouth. I had the crown adjusted multiple times bc every few months I’d be biting on it again. They adjusted it so much that it broke and I had to get a new crown, which has been worse than the first one. The crowned tooth seems to get higher and higher even after adjustments. Ever since I’ve had TMJ pain, tightness on that side, popping, clicking.
Fast forward to now I can’t bite down anywhere but that one tooth. I’m getting the crown done AGAIN but my orthodontist said he doesn’t think that will close my bite enough for braces to fix it.
He has my records from when I had braces the first time but no after photo. I told him my bite was literally perfect right after. I don’t see how I had perfect teeth with braces but now that may not be obtainable. I may not need surgery but I’m spiraling.
