Digital artists, help!!

I want to start digital drawing, but I’m lost with what gear to use. I don't have a huge budget for expensive screen tablets, so a regular pen tablet hooked up to a laptop/PC will work.

Which brand is better, Wacom or Veikk, or is there another one worth looking into? It doesn't need to be anything fancy, just good enough for learning.

My main goal is to use it for sketching out compositions before doing my oil paintings, maybe some simpler digital drawings, and hopefully, maybe even sell a drawing or two someday 🤣🤣

St. Anastasia Bell Tower in the morning, Zadar

Well, here goes my second oil painting, still getting used to the medium...

I like how the bell tower turned out, and the buildings to its left are nice, but the cobblestone streets and the buildings to the right really got on my nerves, but it's ok. I can do better and will do better next time!

Critique very much welcome and needed!

Zvonik Sv.

"Lavender fields" -Criticism welcome!

This piece is almost ready, I've been working on it for a month, maybe two, but just an hours every other day. The painting is supposed to be a sunset over the lavender fields.

I need criticism, and especially tips with the lower half of the painting. I really love how the sky turned out, but something feels off with the lower half.

First oil pastel self-portrait

Why is this medium so difficult? 🤣 Recently started with oil paints, which are hard enough, but pastels are another level. This is just a quick study to get a feel for them. Any tips?

First oil painting ever-critique very much welcome

Hi everyone,

I am writing this in hopes of constructive criticism. I need people to tell me what feels off and what is good, and any other helpful tip.

I am a self-taught artist, and I haven't painted in a very long time (mainly with acrylics) and have decided, why not try to improve myself, and maybe meet some new people.

The problems I am having with this painting are:

  1. I'm having trouble with taking a photo of the painting, I need some tips on how to avoid this weird sheen that is ruining the visual :(

  2. I try to avoid realism. I paint as I see and as I feel. But this was supposed to be a sunset on a bay with its colours reflecting off the sea, and some ships and boats, and a coast with houses and cypress trees, and the sun behind it all, but every time I show it to someone they react as if it's abstract.

  3. I was working with cheap primary colours (+white and black), every shade, every other colour was done by hand and I feel like the quality of the paints is bad, any suggestions on any good paints? Also, how to blend colours without them getting muddy?

  4. Contrast between the sea and the ships/boats; I could have done it better, but how?

  5. The sea kinda looks odd, but idk why...

Sorry for the long post but yeah, any help and criticism is welcome.

This is the summer I learn how to paint; I can and I will do better!
