Tina Yazdani on Instagram: "NEW: We’ve obtained a leaked script for a taxpayer-funded advertisement that takes aim at teacher unions, as contract talks grind to a halt. The draft script portrays parents criticizing unions over sick days & potential strikes.

Fellow teachers and educators....how are we feeling about this new development? I put the IG link with the details. I'm honestly not surprised at this point. Every 4 to 5 years, we are subject to intense scrutiny and disrespect. It's demoralizing, to say the least.

We get stuck with a Minister of Ed who knows nothing about education. I just can't.

Grade 2 Teachers

Good morning, I will be teaching Grade 2 in September. Was wondering if there were any other Grade 2 teachers that would give me some suggestions for the first two weeks? To give you some context: I taught FDK for 3 years and taught Grade 1 for a few years. It’s been 8 years since I taught Grade 2 (I only taught it for one year, back in 2018). My Grade 2 team partner is coming from teaching Grade 4 (she’s only ever taught 4 or 5). Our other team partner is about to go on maternity leave. There will be a LTO hired for her position. One of the former Grade 2 teachers has accepted a secondment position.

I have my own math resources (counting cubes, manipulatives, base 10 blocks). I have my own UFLI manual and sets of magnetic letters. I have a collection of books that are good for the small bookshelf that is in my classroom. According to the class list that I had in the end of June, I had 24 students 😮 but I know that this could change in September if a reorganization takes place.

Any suggestions and advice is greatly appreciated, as I feel a bit rusty. Thank you 🙏

Making Friends

Hello fellow parents of multiples. Question for you: for those whose twins or triplets are in school (for context, I’m from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦) - do your children have friends? Are you finding it difficult to reach out to families for play dates and such?

I have tried reaching out to several families and have tried to arrange a playdate or two. I totally understand that it can be a challenge with people’s schedules; jobs; family situations and if kids have lessons or extracurricular activities going on. So far, I’ve had two parents who have had their kids come out to the park with my twins. One of my twins has a speech delay and low muscle tone but we try to include him as often as possible (he can fatigue easily).

I know after the pandemic, many people have been cautious about their kids and play dates.

Two little girls who are in my twin’s kindergarten class have had playdates. It’s nice and I would love to see more playdates occur in the future. Anyone else feel this way? Just looking to see if anyone else has experienced this. Cheers.

One Twin dumped the iPad in Water

Not sure if this counts or belongs here....but one of my 5 year old twins decided to drop her iPad in the Tuff Tray in our backyard. Not the TT with the lego and duplo. NOPE, the one with bubbles and water. This was 3 days ago (I wasn't home, husband was supervising her and I am ticked that he didn't pay enough attention about the tech being outside because the rule I have is no tech out in the backyard for this very reason). I was at work when this occurred, you can just imagine how pleased I was to hear this had happened. 👀

Anywhoo, hubby put the iPad in a flat tray full of rice. We left it there for 2 days and he replaced the rice again and I just want to know.....is the iPad completely unsalvageable or is there hope?

I did try to power it up but given the fact it hasn't been charged in days, nothing happened. Or myabe I am just getting my hopes up and it's doomed. Any tips? I will not purchase another iPad. My daughter has to start understanding that this was a huge no no - and there will be no new iPad for her. Period. (I'm the bad cop and my husband is the good cop in the relationship).

I'm stressed out but....oh well. This happens and we just have to navigate through. Cheers,

Emailing Calandra

Hi fellow Ontario teachers. I was wondering if anyone has been sending or starting to send emails to Paul Calandra, in the hopes of getting some traction going?

This is coming from the fact that I am so annoyed and frustrated with seeing him as our MoE and how utterly tone deaf and useless he is in this particular appointment. Every single time I see a snippet of him on the news or on social media, I get angry. We have had nothing but a bunch of useless, entitled and out of touch people in the Education portfolio.

I am dreading the next round of negotiations.
