Why are we pretending the game is playable?

At this point it is common knowledge that there's a memory leak which WILL make your game crash after 2-3(depending on your VRAM) fast travels from the hunter's dream.

that means guaranteed and reproducible crashes using completely normal and frequent behaviour.

other than this the random skyrocketing of gpu usage one minute to the next which is only resolved upon a restart, which tanks frame rates on lower end gpus

is this our standard for a functioning emulator? what went so wrong?

don't get me wrong I have nothing but respect for the open source projects and their developers but you have to be objective about the experience when you say the game is playable.

It is VERY CLEARLY not and there's no pathway for fixing the memory leak as well going by the discussions I have read

So why are we lying to ourselves and everyone that this is good enough?

Best way to use a cooler with a Telescopic controller (S25 8Elite)

Hey everyone apologies for the terrible video i am very sick and havent recorded an explainer video ever before.

Heres the write up if you dont wanna sit through that:

I learned you can host sunshine servers on android now.

I have an S25(8elite,4000mah, 6.1 inch) and a F54(shitxynos 1380 poo poo edition, 6000mah, 6.78 inch oled, old phone)

I had a lot of trouble keeping the thermals in check for the s25 and cooler was mandatory to not reach 47 degrees battery temp instantly.

But with a cooler it doesnt fit in the controller, so i had to build a thing to hold the phone above the controller like many of you and then attach the cooler. And put the heavy battery in the controller bay. Very inelegant yet functional set up for the last few months and replayed DS2 bearer of the curse mod edition(highly recommended)

Now with sunshine, i can stream my phone screen to my pc or my older phone which has a larger screen and battery. Keep the heavy battery and cooler away, and still have the phone functional for calls or texts etc during loading screens.

The latency and the streaming overhead, with a hotspot connection between the two devices. Is surprisingly good with a 100mbps 120hz 1080p stream to my old phone.

I played 30 ish minutes of Sekiro, Risk of rain(eden),Tears of the kingdom, GTA SAN A(PS2) and Skyrim with this and it was totally viable!

Thought id share here to let you all know. I am sorry if this is common knowledge or very obvious to you.

TLDR:

Consider using sunshine to stream your phone with cooler and powerbank attached to a different phone which fits inside a Telescopic controller.

In before:

Then just stream from your pc dude -> i know i already do. Still perhaps useful for people who dont have pcs perhaps thanks to sam altman or when you are outside on the go and your tailscale config blows up or have bad network to home pc idk.

How would you improve this Spell blade build?

The problem with spell blades is that Depth relics would have Specific element or general affinity attack power, not physicals

Now, if you're using a weapon that does magic damage, more than half of it's damage is still going to be the physical component

so just running magic atk +4s is not going to boost your damage by the expected 36 to 40% as you would expect, it would be maybe 20% best case, combined with the split damage having to go through defenses twice, would deal much less damage than a pure physical weapon with Phys+4s. That is okay because most of your damage is supposed to come from your spells if you're running this kind of set up and your melee just has to be somewhat viable.

But early game you don't have an affinity weapon, nor do you start with a spell and since you're reliant on RNG a lot of times you're left with less melee damage, typically lower amounts of FP and spell damage than a pure caster, and you are also sacrificing health and defensive relics as they are used up in bringing your spell damage up to viability

This makes this whole thing kind of a meme and feel very forced.

Duchess however, seems to have a kit that really pushes it closer to viability.

Reprise on final hit is excellent for proccing status and mind and faith respecc relic gives you enough fp to cast without needing 3+ staves or seals or rise unlock and reduces RNG burden to allow for using affinity based weapon skills if you don't find either a good sorcery or incant and the double dodge makes up a lot for the lack of survivability

For improvements -

What I can think of is having atk power up against frostbitten enemies with the affinity attack power on the depth relic to make it more synergistic with melee antics.

Does anything else come to mind? Poison instead of frost maybe to make it more sticky?

The DregMage - In Depth Analysis of the Best Nightfarer after 2300 hours and D5 9999

(But... But... my balancer Halo slop? You can do that too. Dregs alone is as strong as double balancers, combined with another 20% boost from 3 greatswords, you're significantly stronger but for all damage and not just skill spam.)

Hey guys, it's the Auraharvestor from the discord, back again with another build analysis, this time on reddit.

I think I am at the end of the road with Nightreign. I have done everything I wanted in this game and had the time of my life. Easily my Favourite FromSoft game of all time. Thanks to every one of you for the runs, the sense of community, the memes and the gameshow chat spam before release.

On to the main course. First, I'll explain what the build is, then I'll go over what makes it the best by comparing it with the other mages.

Wylder's best melee options other than the balls are dual greatswords. You get great(hah) damage with the jump attacks, excellent revive with the running L1 doing 1 full bar of revive and a very underrated and underused backstep double poke (when using the backstep to cancel out the recovery of certain animation such as jump attack end lag without having to roll)

We put seppuku on it, and since you're anyways gonna have 2, might as well add another one and get an very RNG light 20% damage increase. The neat thing about this is, it applies to ALL damage including - your ultimate, spells, consumables, greatarrows etc. things that double balancers miss out on.

We're gonna put seppuku on it, and when combined with Poison or rot (rot is better due to auto heal) below max hp, we can on demand activate Dregs, which helps massively in keeping the buff through graces and churches without slowing down a lot. And the grapple hook helps you catch up with your teammates so that your other pure mages don't approach the boss first and end up taking aggro.

Another great thing about wylder is, You get very good bleed build up with the grapple hook, and combine that with the additional bleed from seppuku, you are very viable early game when you don't have spells or lose dregs, which happens to be one of the major weaknesses of the Int Fth respec and wylder in general. Discount executor basically.

We are not going to run dormant staves or seals for 2 reasons -

we need the 3 greatswords and greatswords happen to have some very good options like Ordovis, Alabaster and Helphens which all benefit from the int fth respec and Death's Poker's ash does more damage than most spells.

Dormant seals are very unreliable. Loot pool is polluted with a bunch of garbage support incants and I swear to god i feel like there's something bugged out about it. when running dormant staves i very reliably at least get a staff even if it's bad, but with seals a bunch of bosses or pois simply don't drop it. I know it's not just me, others have also complained about this. Dormant staves is good but then you're not using your faith stat very well then. Remember prince of death staff and golden order seal are not hybrid scaling catalysts anymore unlike the base game.

I have attached the damage numbers and comparison of pebble, crystal and lightning spear in the image, but we'll get to that later.

The main criticism of Mage wylder is that the respec doesn't buff your int and fth enough for casting to be viable, and you degrade your already middling melee damage even further by reducing strength dex to only a measly 3-5 points above base guardian levels.

This is true. But the melee damage loss, as well as inadequate spell scaling is more than just fixed at the last modifier of general atk power boost from 3gs and dregs.

In terms of melee damage the only thing that beats you is a non-respecced Dregs wylder or DregsofLibra Raider or Maybe Dregs Executor with more Dex respec (very flawed for various reasons like your ult gets you out of it, you have no good damage options other than skills so you benefit from the Generality of the boost a lot less and if all you're doing is corpse piler or curse blade skill, maybe just go balancers at this point)

Regarding Dregs-of-Libra Raider, which is pretty bad imo, if you watch Muni's streams (really fun btw), he dies a lot and is behind his entire team, which is Fine as he makes up for it with damage, but let's be clear, That is what he is doing, mages are ahead of him making first contact at times, no negations all damage, for a short duration with ExFlesh and upliftings and having to do the gesture everytime just plain sucks as you can't start with seppuku, for most people it's just not fun even if it does work, anything works if you're skilled enough or have more than a thousand hours, but i wouldn't generally recommend this build. Wylder is better because because sixth sense early game is pretty useful and you can play sloppy and relaxed, and makes up for the downtime of Full HP negations (when the status is building, you can then heal up when it's almost full)

The main strength of DregMage Wylder is, you are very RNG resistant. You can use Everything. You have very high melee and skill damage, very good damage with your ultimate and the highest non-specialized spell damage.

Now let's look at the damage numbers and comparisons of all our int fth casters in the attached image.

Note that all damage numbers are done at level 7 as beyond that, in run RNG makes any comparison practically meaningless, but even at higher levels, the story doesn't change damage numbers wise. While testing, the only relics equipped with the respecs with non damage or stat increasing effects.

Even without dregs, the only thing that beats the 3gs int fth wylder is a respecced more int fth reduced mind recluse. Problem is, this respec doesn't increase the stats enough to justify the FP decrease, Wylder ends up with more FP at this point.

But even the juiced up recluse doesn't stand a chance once the stacks come online, and you don't even need all of them.

Libra gesture is too annoying and hard to maintain which is why dregs isn't viable on recluse and changing default dormant staves to a weapon to have 3 of them to get that boost is also a non-starter for her.

That being said, Recluse does have the benefit of not having the relics overhead and can instead specialize into crystalian double stacking, at that point, she would reach or exceed wylder numbers. She can also run 3+ staves, which gives her more FP (wylder can't do this since he already is doing 3 gs, so that would limit your options by a lot for passives) and FP regen skill doesn't matter end game due to it being too slow and plentiful starlights. Recluse cant revive as reliably, has less HP and doesn't having the melee prowess of a wylder due to high recovery dodge and other various reasons.

Now you might think, Wait a second. Sure recluse can't match up to the dregmage, but what about his sister?

Duchess starts with a weapon so can get the 3 daggers for the same boost, has a more mind respec which gives her slightly more FP than the wylder, and the faith respec makes her have more FP, Int and faith than the wylder.

One problem - Daggers can't start with Seppuku.

That kills it. Even restage doesn't make up for a 35% damage deficit when accounting for her higher stats.

Also, this is an opinion: Dual daggers suck. Duchess has a much better one handed dagger moveset compared to Ps D, with the uncharged Heavy Procing successive very easily. Dual daggers don't revive very well so it makes it hard to justify carrying 3 of them.

Melee wise, I am not saying duchess is worse, the double dodge can get you places, but the less hp, no sixth sense and a pretty bad ultimate does make her less preferable for souls veterans who are more used to wylder's base game dodge recovery frames.

That leaves Int Fth Wylder with Night of Dregs and 3 gs, The DregMage Wylder, as the honoured one.

PSA: Skyrim Voice overs require Xaudio_7 addition from Wine configuration in the container

I tried out various emulators and devices and audio was working fine but character voice lines were missing.

Turns out, the way to resolve this incompatiblity is to go inside your container, find wine configuration and find the xaudio7 library in the top dropdown and click on Add. Restart container and it should work.

Also, you cant change output devices or the audio breaks, same bug as with the pc build (which this is).

If your controller doesnt work, go to documents, my games and skypref.ini and find gamepad text and set it to 1.

Samsung Dex One UI 8.5 stable impressions on Baby S25

Controller bluetooth problem has been fixed after one year of being fucked. Unacceptable it took this long but it is fixed, can confirm.

The multiple desktop implementation is absolute dog shit. They didnt even mention it in the changelog because maybe they are aware of how bad it is.

Heres why-

  1. Theres no way to switch between 2 desktops(dextops?) With a 4 finger swipe or hotkey. You have to open recents menu, and then swipe or click on the small arrow on the top left of the screen to switch. Insane.

  2. You would expect if you have 3 apps open on desktop 1. And 2 on desktop 2, and you click on the taskbar icon of an app thats on desktop 2 when you are On desktop 1, it would automatically switch to that desktop to preserve your window layout, NOPE fuck your layout that you put so much effort into creating (they made organizing windows MUCH MUCH WORSE, this will be next point), the app just reopens on your current desktop on top of whatever window layout you created.

The person who programmed this needs to use a real computer for once instead of having the ui experience of playing with an abacus.

3.window management - Absolute Dog shit. If you want to have 4 phone sized apps side by side its much harder to get to that layout because the moment you move the window handle of an app close to top of the screen, it AUTOMAXIMIZES?????? what the actusl fuck is this behavior literally no OS ever does this. A MASSIVE downgrade.

  1. One good thing is dex does remember window layouts. BUT GUESS WHAT, if you disconnect from dex, and then use your phone and close an app, and then you reconnect to dex, the closed app does not show up.

This speaks to lack of a design philosophy or vision of the technical implementation of a desktop mode.

Are apps on dex and phone supposed to be separate instances (what happens to the memory or runtime of those apps outside of desktop mode then?), or the same app just blown up.

Some places like samsung internet or instagram, it works like a separate instance with different scaling and viewport config, others like whatsapp its the same app blown up.

This is very damning because theres nothing samsung can do to fix it. And even google or aosp cant fix it for different reasons (sheer incompetence)

Thats about it. Here are my thoughts-

There is still no way to get rid of the 5 app limit which is absurd. This all ties back into the theme of Enshittification. Why is the version of dex on my samsung tablet from 10 years ago Significantly better than this? That can run linux natively and officially, no app limit bullshit, no window management bullshit, everything just works, but here we are, 10 years later, looking at a much worse version of what we already had instead of getting the promised and anticipated improvements.

I feel like i am going crazy and this current tech landscape is some form of a social experiment with hardware costs skyrocketing, software quality nosediving and general standard of living declining.

Its not just dex it is seemingly everything. People hailing the macbook neo when its just a worse macbook air m1 from half a decade ago for more money. And lets not even think about politics. A civilization in decline is an ugly thing.

Turns out, since w3 game speed is not tied to framerate, turbo mode is basically 60fps mode

Also, new drivers dont need res scaling, nice. Even the baby s25 is able to maintain close to 60 fps most of the time.
