Armsx3 version 9.2 Released 🔥 🔥

ARMSX3 0.9.2

What's new:

Games that could never boot, now boot, A bug in how the PPU handles atomic memory operations has been fixed, and it was stopping a whole class of games from working. When a game's code claims a lock, it reserves a chunk of memory, checks it, then commits. ARMSX3 was letting the thread's record of that reservation fall one step behind reality after the first successful commit, so the second commit to the same chunk always failed, and kept failing. Any game whose code claims several locks in one pass would spin there forever.

Assassin's Creed never got past its loading screen because of this. Iron Man 2 stopped at a black screen after the Sega logo. Both now boot and play.

If a game has been hanging on a black screen with no error and no crash, it is worth another try on this build. The failure left no trace anywhere, no message, no crash, just a game that never continued, so there is no way to know from the outside which titles were affected.

This is not an ARM-only problem, it is present in upstream RPCS3 today, and the fix has been written up and shared with Whatcookie!

Fixed settings that quietly ignored you:

All Core Settings now shows which settings it is remembering, and lets you forget them. Anything changed on that screen is recorded and re-applied after the normal settings screens, every time. That is intentional, (it is what makes it an override), but it had no way to show you it was happening and no way to undo it. A value set there months ago would silently beat the same setting on a normal screen forever, with nothing on screen to explain why the two disagreed. Every overridden row is now marked, the count is shown at the top, and there is a Forget button per row and one for the whole screen. Forgetting also puts the value back rather than leaving it where the override left it. A one-time cleanup also clears leftovers from past debugging that were shipping switched on, including the RSX profiler, which costs performance in every game.

Keyboard:

The emulated keyboard now reaches games properly, and games see a real keyboard: this is what the debug menus some titles hide behind one need, and what in-game text chat uses. A row of the keys the Android keyboard does not have like Esc, Tab, arrows, Space, Enter, and F1–F12 behind an Fn toggle now appears whenever the keyboard is up. Debug menus need arrows to navigate and Space to open, a phone keyboard has neither. The keyboard button now actually raises the keyboard. It was asking the system in a way a fullscreen game is allowed to refuse, so the key row would appear over nothing. Turn it on with Emulate USB keyboard in Network settings, then use the On-Screen Keyboard hotkey or the KBD touch button in game.

Graphics on Turnip:

Devices running the Turnip driver were rendering with half-precision maths switched off, no matter how new the driver was. The check meant to re-enable it was comparing against Qualcomm driver version numbers, which Turnip does not use, so it could never pass. Half-precision is on again on Turnip, which should mean more correct shading in games that rely on it and a little less memory bandwidth used.

I've been researching and comparing for days now and I need to start making a choice. Can you guys help me decide or tell me if there are other controllers that I should consider? I would be playing mostly GBA, PS1 & PSP games on my Android phone. And which ones to avoid?

I think the feature that I would like the most is passthrough charging since I need my phone to be charged fully when I arrive after travelling. I guess with the X5s I could move it up a bit so I can connect the charger while playing right?

Also, about the gyro, I'm guessing emulators don't support it right? Because my phone doesn't have one and it would be neat to have for driving and some gimmics (like WarioWare: Twisted!) and also for using it in my PC but I guess that can wait till I get a proper phone and a gyro controller for my PC.

The prices are from AliExpress before any discounts/coupons, I'm not from the US so please don't tell me "Oh just get this one used for 3 fiddy or on Walmart" because that won't work for me sadly. I can get stuff from Amazon but prices are a bit higher there and there aren't any coupons like on AliExpress

Thanks for taking the time to read :)

EDIT: Sorry I made a mistake on the X5s, it doesn't have extra buttons

Update on the modded Galaxy Z Flip 5 TV box: what held up and what didn't

Two months ago I posted about a Galaxy Z Flip 5 I imported from China — the kind where a shop pulls the phone out of its original shell and rebuilds it inside a 3D-printed case with extra ports and fans. No battery, runs off USB-C only, interface locked to landscape, around 250g. It's been my TV box since then.

A few people asked me to report back, so here it is, including the parts that annoy me.

The setup

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 512GB, One UI 7 with updates disabled. Plugged into the TV over USB-C to HDMI. Around $180 landed including import tax — the factory price was about $90 before the shipping agent and duties.

What's held up

I've tried PS2, NES and Game Boy emulation. I'm nowhere near a demanding user, so I haven't run into much stuttering. No random reboots either, and the system itself has never felt sluggish.

It stays plugged in basically 24/7. It warms up a bit under load, but nothing that's worried me — I think the fans are doing a decent job in there.

Every time I've powered it off and back on, the interface came back exactly as I left it, still locked to landscape. Installing APKs and games has been dead simple with LocalSend and ZArchiver.

What hasn't

The experience isn't seamless the way a dedicated system like Google TV or Android TV is.

Since this isn't a purpose-built streaming box but a converted phone, anyone who's a perfectionist about this stuff will probably feel it. For me those details fade once you factor in what the hardware actually does.

A few apps show a small black bar down the side of the screen.

I'm already used to modding things, so none of it struck me as a real problem — you just have to know how to adapt a phone for TV use.

Heat

It's hit 113°F (45°C) at times, but it never shut itself down or rebooted on me.

At that point it's worth having some airflow across it, just to stop the heat from building up in one spot.

Would I do it again

For what I paid, in my country I could get an S21 or S22 Ultra with a broken screen — both with weaker chips.

Or a Google TV Streamer, which would give me actual Google TV but lose around 10x in processing power.

I don't care that much about polish, so I go with function. I'll take raw power over a clean integrated experience.

Dragon's Crown, a lightweight ps3 game are going ingame on such a low end chip (Redmi Pad, A12, 4GB, Helio G99, Mali-G57 MC2, not fully tested here). ARMSX3 0.9.2, the A11+ ARM V8.2 version)

this game is playable at like 15fps - 60fps average. Sometimes stuttering, sometimes not.

The issue is, its soo hard to screenshot that, but atleast i managed to get the title screen as screenshot and a game here (without fps hub sadly).

It Took like a hour here for the first time launch with the PPU firmware thing, so quicker than previous with Mineraft PS3 Edition on a older build with the legacy one. but starting it again, it takes like 30-1 minute later even bit shorter.

Seems like the ram is almost full (which is what i cannot screenshot there so maybe ill gonna camera shot on next game), but i cannot get it further tested, due for the forced tutorial (which seems like i cannot get passed) and i dont really know if the game may or may not crashed later. But yeah, with more rams (so aka a different model with the same chip) or less background (which i dont know how to reduce the bloat backgrounds to free up more rams on this emulator here, let me know) would solve that issue.

Good thing is, no issues, no logo blinking issue, and its also default settings except the fps hub, great job armsx3/rpcs3 team, keep it up!

Lets see if i get a more demanding game here on a low end chip, which im gonna post here again!

u/AntiGrieferGames — 1 day ago

emulation on a foldable was made for my nostalgia addiction 😂

crazy work… rage baiting myself while playing this game! yes its worth it!

i put Alladdin (yes genesis game from way back when) on the z Fold 8 ultra just to see how it looked and yeah… 😂 i cant stop playing! the big screen makes old games feel way less cramped and the controls have enough room that im not fighting my thumbs the whole time

as a millennial this was prob the worst game i could have picked because now i wanna replay everything i grew up with 😂, you know I take that back…Lion King would be the worst type of ragebait game to return to

millennial nostalgia is about to cost me my free time but im getting so much dopamine from this style of playing😭

we back bby!!

Update: Creating a 32-Bit Emulator for 64-bit only android devices (VPHONEOS alternative)

Quick followup to the following thread I had posted a few months ago:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnAndroid/s/CwOYiQFBTt

Just wanted to say I am still working on this project, even if a bit slowly. It's proving to be much bigger than I thought. Here is my small website in case you'd like to check on the project progress every now and then (to be expanded).

Leave a nice comment or a donation on the website or anything if you like what you see :)

Any ideas how to fix this? ;w; (Winlator - Redmagic 10S Pro)

I just installed Winlator in it's latest version (11.1), and put Outlast 1 there, dang, can't believe this phone can actually run it in 720p + max graphics at 55-60 fps and very stable!!!, it runs so smooth. But, when i try to connect it to the TV (Smart TV 40" 1080p 60hz) via HDMI, i get a Lot of constant glitching and weird effects, that makes it all very uncomfortable to play... Here some other details that may help to understand it better :

- It runs perfectly on the phone screen (0% glitchs/0% problems if i run it without connecting any external screen)

- The same glitching happens if i cast the screen via Wifi.

- The ports are correctly connected, also, this HDMI connection works perfectly in any other native Android games and emulator like PPSSPP, so the problem is not the ports nor the HDMI cable.

- If i force direct MIRRORING (Duplicate screen), it works good (but obviously i don't Think its the Best option to enjoy a game with max resolution and FPS)

- Already tried :

- Setting 1080p on the container in Winlator/Limit framerate to 60fps in container too (No improvement)

- Changing Graphic Driver (by default there was Turnip active, but i changed it to Vortek, and the glitching reduced from 100% to 20%, but, a Lot of lag)

- Changing versions of Graphic Driver (The Game just doesnt open if i don't use the default version xd)

- Reducing graphics quality in game options (There was no improvement)

- Enabling V-Sync in game options (No improvement either)

If anyone has any ideas, please ;w; 🙏 ... i love the Game a Lot, and i'm super happy at how this phone can run it a Lot better than my Mini PC, and Even Setting the max graphics quality. But this glitching problem ruins it all .w. ...

Playing on a Phone is also fun!

Using the Gamesir X5 Lite matches well with the Z Fold 8 Ultra. Been playing the android ports of Tomb Raider and Red Dead Redemption. As well as playing Resident Evil Code Veronica X with HD Texture pack on Nethersx2 and Resident Evil Director's Cut with HD Texture on Duckstation.

Satisfied so far!

ARMSX2 might actually be the future of PS2 emulation on phones 🔥

I was scrolling through this subreddit and saw a Redditor post all the emulators he was using on his phone. What caught my attention was that he was using ARMSX2 instead of NetherSX2.

I had basically zero background knowledge about ARMSX2, so I asked him why he was using it. I ended up getting multiple positive replies explaining why ARMSX2 could potentially be the future of PS2 emulation on phones, and even on Apple Silicon.

So I thought, why not? I went straight ahead and tried it myself.

And holy shit, I was blown away 😂

It runs perfectly fine for me. I even compared it directly with NetherSX2, and honestly, I ended up deleting NetherSX2 altogether 😂

Huge thanks to everyone who took the time to explain and give me feedback. This is exactly why Reddit keeps proving every day why it's one of the best platforms ever created for communities.

Can't wait to see the improvements on ARMSX3 to enjoy the playstation 3 library, everything is possible with this team 🔥

PS2 emulator outputting 50 frames instead of 60fps

Hi, I'm using Preconfigured NetherSX2 from GitHub. Games usually start running normally and then slow down after a few minutes. The FPS will go from 60 to 50 or 55 and because the game's speed is tied to the FPS the game slows down to 82-93% play speed. My phone isn't using all of its resources and at 82% play speed the game is a bit too slugish. How can I make these games run at 100% consistently? I've used the sun/lamp FSP fix for Grand Turismo 4.

I've searched and there doesn't seem to be much documentation of this issue.

Device: OnePlus 12 Snapdragon 8 gen 3 16gb+4 ram

App: Preconfigured NetherSX2 from GitHub

Games: Every one I've tried (Grand Turismo 4, Steambot Chronicles, King's Field
