Loupedeck Linux app update (CT support, new UI, what’s next in the roadmap)

Hey peeps, not-so-quick follow-up to this post about taking over an old Linux Loupedeck config app.

Original thread was basically “the upstream hadn’t moved in a year, so I forked it and kept going.” That’s still the case, I’m building this for my own CT on Fedora/KDE (Wayland), and putting it out if anyone else wants a native Linux option without the official Windows/macOS-only software. It's changed enough that I have deforked it and am now going it completely isolated

Repo: https://github.com/ascendedent/loupedeckapp

What’s landed since that post; A lot more...

• Full Loupedeck CT support — wheel screen, rotary dial, CT function buttons, correct geometry. Live and Live S still in the model list.

• New UI closer to the official app layout: action library (drag onto controls), live on-screen device mirror, inspector for actions/images/labels/LED colours/backgrounds.

• Draft editing; mirror updates as you edit; Save pushes to the device + disk, Revert discards.

• Copy/paste a control’s function onto compatible controls (encoder↔encoder, key↔key, etc.).

• Submenus create/navigate from the UI.

• Wayland-friendly input via ydotool (hotkeys/text actually hit native Wayland windows on KDE).

• Dynamic mode; auto-switch profiles by focused app (KDE / kdotool today).

• Profiles are versioned JSON (labels, LEDs, backgrounds, CT slots, etc.).

Still Linux-first. Day-to-day target is Fedora + KDE Plasma on Wayland with a CT on USB serial.

Whats being worked on;

• Legacy PyQt5 UI is still in the tree; new work is all on the QML app, and the old one is on the way out.

• Action search in the left panel is still cosmetic; library could use more useful defaults.

• Dynamic mode needs a proper “bind this app → this profile” UI in the new interface (logic exists).

• No Flatpak/AppImage yet, clone + venv + udev + ydotool for now (README has setup).

• Starter profiles / packaging / polish are next.

Roadmap (high level)

  1. Finish consistency: one UI, proper config paths, platform adapters cleaned up.
  2. Ship Linux; packaging (Flatpak and/or AppImage), pinned deps, udev/ydotool docs, starter profiles.
  3. Product depth; profile create/import, better action library, brightness/reconnect, Live S layout fidelity, macros, etc.
  4. macOS build later; core is already split so the hard part is input + focus detection + .app packaging. Goal is support back to macOS 10.14, not only the latest OS (As requested by a commenter on original post). Linux stays priority until that ships cleanly.

Issues / PRs / “I tried this on distro X” reports are welcome. If you’re on Live/Live S or a non-KDE DE, feedback on what breaks is especially useful because I dont have those LD's and I’m on Fedora Plasma

Might start a discord for the development to gather feedback more easily, if anyone is interested in that let me know if its worth the time

What are your biggest workflow pain points or feature wishlists right now?

I'm looking to get a sense of how other DMs are feeling about their current prep and live-play workflows within Roll20.

What are the biggest friction areas or pain points you currently experience when using the platform? Are there specific QOL updates, pricing/subscription tier adjustments, or built-in features you find yourself constantly wishing the developers would implement to make running a game easier?

Would love to hear what features you feel are currently missing or could be handled better natively.

[DND5.5E] Discussion: How does your Foundry prep workflow compare to other VTTs, and what still causes friction?

I’m currently analyzing my DM workflow and looking closely at how I prep and run my 5.5e games. Foundry's one-time purchase model is great, but the ecosystem can be a lot to manage.

For those of you who have transitioned to Foundry from other VTTs, how do you feel the day to day prep and live play experience compares?

Specifically, I'm curious about your biggest friction points.

Do you find yourselves spending a lot of time tab juggling between external worldbuilding wikis and the VTT? Are there core features you constantly wish were just built into the base software so you didn't have to hunt down and maintain a list of third-party modules?

I'd love to hear how other DMs manage their prep workflow and what features you think Foundry is still missing out of the box.

What Platforms/App’s do you use to help you run your campaigns? Likes/dislikes?

Want to understand what DM’s are using to run their campaigns (R20, VTT, foundry, etc) and what they like and/or dislike about them.

Do you use multiple? Are there things you wish they did or didn’t do? What are your biggest needs in a campaign management platform and are there any functionalities you have yet to find any platform offering, either at all or to the level that you want?

How does it compare to pen and paper and what do you find yourself reaching for the most?

What’s the most frustrating part of running your campaigns in general outside of platforms themselves

Full Disclosure: I’m asking because I’m building my own specifically because I haven’t found a platform yet that does EVERYTHING I want it to and am looking for experiences outside of my own to single out things I may not have thought of yet.
