decline of the companions?

the companions started as a small army of 500 nords strong or so the books say if they are even reliable due to the fact nords have an oral tradition predating written history, however they also during the second era were much more then sellswords for hire as they had established other strongholds like fellowstone hall and the crypt under Shor's stone, it was also at this time that the companions accepted all including mages into their organisation and even had the distinguished position for mages simply known as sages, and did not care for one's race, or if they use magic or not, the dicline was drastic by the 4th era Fallowstone is but a cave no one ever visits as the buildings there have long since rotted away, an obvious cave-in happened at shor's stone sealing off the cript and the compainions were reduced to sellswords by the 4th era acting like the fighters guild which incidentally during the 2nd era had a hall in every city in skyrim. what was the cause of the companion's decline?

alt theory on Marrok, the first brother

so, everyone thinks Marrok died and was resurrected by Morgan however when Dathomiri use this twisted force power, the ressurected are mindless like classic zombies and Marrok spoke, i fundamentally disagree with this, after re-watching Star Wars the Clone Wars recently, i think there is a better explanation for the green smoke. i believe Marrok not only survived the imperial era but thrived, when the Inquisitorius was disbanded i believe Marrok was the sole survivor and went into hiding in the outer rim viewing the empire as treasonous and taking up work as a merc on some insignificant world no one has even heard of in the greater empire and then he met Morgan Elsbith. by that point Marrok was no longer in his prime, its doubtful he learned enough during his time as a jedi if he was a jedi in the past and if he were he was a padawan or a knight, and wouldn't have mastered the ability to augment his body with the force and so Morgan Elsbith took him to Dathomir where the Ichor is at its most potent and she used the same magiks or similer magiks to reverse or mitigate the aging process on Marrok's body and likely enhancing his physical abilities so he could fight like he could in his prime, and as a result he pledged himself to her service for the gift and we all know when Dathomiri enhance the physicality of another using magiks, when they die the Ichor used leaves their body as green smoke, Savage Opress being a notibly physically enhanced Dathomiri warrior whos body released green smoke when he died.

considering the zombie-like behavour of those resurrected, both Star Wars the Clone Wars and Jedi: fallen order both featured this as well as Thrawn's Necrotroopers after they were ressurected, also the ressurected created by the Dathomiri witches are unphased by being impaled or cut apart by lightsabers. the evidence of Marrok being physically enhanced is stronger then him being basically a zombie
