Hey guys,
I’ve had my Corsa B 1.5 TD for about 3 years now. It’s got the original Isuzu block and it's been a tank. I’m currently doing over 50km (30+ miles) every single day in it, so I really rely on this car, but I wanted to double-check something regarding the temps.
My gauge usually sits around 90-92°C. In stop-and-go traffic, it hits 95°C, the fan kicks in, and it drops right back down. Coolant level is rock solid—rises a bit when hot, goes back to the mark when cold. No bubbling, no losing water. Is this typical for these Isuzu engines? I know they run a bit hot, but just wanted to be sure since I'm putting so many miles on it.
Also, I recently messed with the fuel pump and torque settings to give it some more life for city driving. The difference is night and day. In 1st and 2nd gear, I actually have to grip the wheel because it just wants to take off—it makes me laugh every time. It throws a bit of black smoke when I floor it, but nothing crazy.
The best part is the fuel economy. I went from 7.5L/100km down to 6.5L in the city. On the highway, I’m getting about 4L/100km (around 58 MPG US / 70 MPG UK), and 4.5L mixed. I usually shift early, around 1700 RPM, and the car handles it perfectly.
Does anyone else here use one as a daily? Are those temps similar to yours? And what kind of mileage are you guys getting?
Cheers!
