What Data is Useful For You?

Hi All,

I manage a professionals community on Slack and we're attempting to track churn and disengagement. I've used the Slack analytics feature and it's ok. However, I've built an integration to pull Slack engagement metrics on members (ie: last message they sent, my last reaction with this member) with Luma to get a better idea on how members are disengaging.

It got me thinking, what Slack metrics do you keep track of for your community? Moreover, are there any metrics that you wished you have but are hard to visualize or Slack doesn't provide?

Tips on Starting a Custom Application Agency

Hi everyone, I work as a product manager at tech company but have a background in development and have been coding on personal projects for the last couple of years. I've built out a few apps and have gotten customers on one of them. As I have experience on both the product and development side, I'd like to build custom applications for clients.

However, I know there are a bunch of custom dev agencies so I'm trying to figure out how to get started. Is it a good idea to focus on a particular niche and try to network within that niche? There are a bunch of custom dev agencies out there so I'm assuming I'd need to differentiate myself.

My thought process is I'd network in a specific space (ie: manufacturing), learn about problems in that space, and pitch my custom dev work in relation to that problem (ie: better reporting infrastructure, etc.). Is that a reasonable approach? I'm thinking niche first -> contacts in the niche -> pitching/sales. Very new to the agency world so any help or advice is appreciated

Am I Tracking Engagement and Retention Properly?

Hi everyone, I manage a professional community on Slack and we're considering moving to a paid plan. I'd like to figure out how to determine which members are getting disengaged and are more likely to churn. I built out a tool for myself to track slack activity, Luma event attendance, and get some info about our members on LinkedIn. I'm using Slack engagement and event attendance to see how engaged members are.

Is my approach correct? How do you all figure out which members are becoming less and less engaged? It's a tough metric to track and I'd like to learn what tools and frameworks you all use to see if members are drifting and to prevent member churn.

What do you guys use your CRM for?

Hi everyone, I manage an alumni association and we've always tracked our members in a spreadsheet. We recently built out a member directory to help people network with each other, but at a networking event a community manager mentioned she uses a CRM to keep track of members and who she's engaged with.

I always thought our directory was fine, but now I'm wondering if I'm missing operational improvements a real CRM would give me. I know there's Gainsight, Salesforce, and others aimed at community managers. For those of you who use one, what do you actually use it for day to day?

The same CM said she keeps a few notes on each member. I'd like to figure out how to make our member data more useful than just a list of people.
