Lately, I’ve been loving my breakfasts. Cheese omelette, sliced avocado, salsa and a side of black beans. Absolutely, delish!
Hi NYCParents,
We will be accepting a job offer at Lennox Hill Hospital. We are a family moving from the suburbs of Boston. Prior to this decision, our oldest son (5YO) was enrolled for public school and entering Kindergarten 2026-2027 academic year and the youngest (3YO) was enrolled in a private preschool.
I am a bit confused with how enrolling my children would work. At the moment, we are targeting school districts on the UES, UWS, Carrol Gardens, Cobble Hill. Part of this decision is proximity to work and our decision to potentially live in Brooklyn is to be close to grandparents and family supports (this would be a longer commute but doable).
I keep reading on this sub that public schools in NYC have lotteries and placement is not guaranteed in neighborhood schools. Would I only find this information out once we have a permanent address? Would it be a good idea to hire an educational consultant? I would prefer for both of my children to be in public schools as both my husband and I went to public schools.
It is my understanding that public schools in our targeted neighborhoods would be fine for our boys. Will it be a problem that my oldest son was scheduled to be entering Kindergarten in Fall 2026, in MA the cutoff is different than NYC. Will he be placed in first grade? Admittedly, that is concerning, and something I wasn't expecting. We did not choose to redshirt him, he is a late Oct 2020 baby. Lastly, for my (3YO) will it be best to forget about the idea that he will go to a public preK and search for a private option? Where do I even begin to look for a private option? Ideally, we prefer M-F half days only. Where else should I be looking, it all feels dizzying and complicated. I always appreciate the suggestions from all of you.
Thank You in Advanced!
