Woodland Adventurer's Guild

Woodland Adventurer's Guild

In the woods on the outskirts of town, myriad sounds echo from beyond the branches. A bard plucks lazily at her lute strings. Potions bubble in their beakers. The glaze on the evening roast crackles in the oven. Steel clashes with steel, but all in good sport; the adventurers must keep their skills as sharp as their blades.

The Woodland Adventurer's Guild (27x24 100dpi) offers a hub of excitement and activity, as well as a reprieve from the dangers of the world. This map features a meeting hall, a library and atelier, a kitchen, and an infirmary. Outside of the buildings are places to train, places to lounge, places to dine, and even a place to mourn.

The Barracks Yard

The military presence hangs heavy over this border town, but nowhere do heads hang heavier than the barracks of Unit 4. No one here joined up for honor or glory. Their ranks are made up of those who chose conscription over imprisonment or execution; a motley collection of criminals and ne'er-do-wells. Or, some who just got unlucky.

The Barracks Yard (24x21 100dpi) has cots enough to house twenty-four soldiers, a unit commander's office, a basic cooking space, and a storage room locked to all but the most trusted. They say there's a cellar door, in that storage room. One meager route to freedom...

Poor poor Unit 4, Half as many as the day before,

The new recruits won't last the week, You'll find them in the vulture's beak.

Poor poor Unit 4, Not 'nuff left to scrape off the floor,

Soon their halls will be Unit 5, Give their bunks to the men that survive.

Lone Farmhouse

In the middle of the dry, cracked plains, surrounded by petrified trees and rusting scrap, sits a singular farmhouse. They till the dead soil to eke out just enough to survive off of. What could make it worth living here? What could make it worth struggling every day? The Lone Farmhouse (25x25, 100dpi) might hold terrifying mysteries, or it might be a tiny beacon of hope in a dark and terrifying wasteland. It's up to you to find out.

Tropical Retreat

Far from the hustle and bustle of smoggy cities lie golden sands and cerulean waves. A lush paradise sits on a peaceful shoreline, serving as a restful vacation spot, or a hub for tropical adventures.

The Tropical Retreat (30x30, 100dpi) features four private and magnificently appointed bedrooms separated by elevated boardwalks, a central living and dining room, a dock on the coast for sea travel, and a footpath through the wilds.

Bain's Crack

Once upon a time, Bain was the leader of a gang that roved the wastelands in clunky vehicles of scrap and steam. When he was paralyzed, his brothers built a tank around him, and he continued leading the gang for another forty years. When his tank broke down in the corner of a dry box canyon in the middle of nowhere, his brothers built a bar around him to keep him company.

Today, Bain's Crack (22x25, 100dpi) is a festering hive of scum and villainy, but also a source of information, and the only watering hole for miles around. They say Bain's still there, kept alive by a prodigious amount of cobbled together machinery, dispensing (bad) advice to those who seek it.

Chaos in the Canal

Narrow roads and canals snake their way through a maze of shabby buildings. While the occasional foot patrol makes a token appearance on the streets, the real traffic of the city's underbelly passes beneath the bridges under their feet. Passing unceremoniously downstream are sacks of grain unstamped and untaxed by city inspectors, crates of "turnips" filled with alchemist grenades, and boats full of thugs travel under the guise of day laborers on their way to hammer nails and not kneecaps.

Mysterious Dig Site

No one expected to strike concrete so deep beneath the rock and soil. The digging stopped and the researchers were brought in. There was plenty of old pottery dug up in the area, and scraps of what look like rusted automatons, but the real point of interest was the strange altar decorated with a three-petaled flower. They worked for weeks, before finally coming back with a translation:

This place is a message. Sending this message was important to us. We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture.

This is not a place of honor. No highly esteemed deed is commemorated here. What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us.

The danger is in a particular location. It increases toward a center. The center of danger is here. The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours. The danger is to the body, and it can kill.

The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.

The words are chilling. But all ancient civilizations put warnings on their tombs full of treasures, didn't they? The foreman says the company gave orders to keep digging...

Desert Crash

The midday sun beats down on what was once a majestic flying vessel, now permanently grounded. Somewhere amidst the sunbaked debris lies answers. Were there survivors? Where have they gone? What could've come along and found them? The Desert Crash could've been the end of somebody's story, but the start of so many more.

Private Investigator's Office

The dame was danger on legs. Curly locks framed her sharp elven features, red like hellfire. Her fey blood was reflected in her eyes; one ice blue, the other green as a forest canopy.

"There's a coven running this city from the shadows, detective," she said in a low and smoky voice, "My mother wants me to inherit the family business. I just want my freedom."

The Private Investigator's Office (27x19, 100dpi) is a two-floor map functioning as a hub for all manner of research and inquiries. Downstairs is a secretary's desk and lobby, with a small office for accepting new clients. Upstairs is a work space for keeping evidence, collecting notes, and consulting the occult when necessary. The dirty streets outside provide a dark alley for covert meetings, park benches for gazing at the river in contemplation, and a food stall for catching a quick bite in the middle of the night.

The Seamstress's Guild

Once upon a time, many a "woman of independent means" would mark herself as a seamstress on a census, to explain her income and lack of employment. In this city, intimate companions of all stripes aren't forced into the shadows by the law, but many still prefer to keep a lower profile.

The Seamstress's Guild (20x20, 100dpi) is a lovely boutique on a busy street corner. They say that Lady Windsail gets her skirts hemmed there thrice a month, and the entire Hunting Club in uptown exclusively patronizes this particular tailor. But few know that through a hidden door in the sewing room lies a secret world of discrete meetings under veils of silk.

Orchard Crash

When experiencing engine failure, a well-trained pilot knows to look for emergency landing zones like unpopulated roads or empty fields. This particular pilot had the best of intentions, but not the best control over their aircraft. The good news is, those enormous apple trees definitely slowed them down!

The Orchard Crash is a mess of splinters and and incidental-applesauce. The workers were no doubt thrown from their bunks by the crash, and the already financially struggling owner of the business is going to have to deal with an accounting mess. There's plenty of room for wild narratives to unfold in this map.

Modular Dungeon - Shifting Lair

The ever-present clicks and clanks of machinery echo down these walls, occasionally overshadowed by a loud metallic grind; it signals that the dungeon has changed again. If you look back the way you came, the path is now unfamiliar.

The Shifting Lair is a modular dungeon collection designed for building and rearranging dungeons on the fly. Every hall and room is designed to connect with one another, with unique themed hallways and feature rooms to create your own narrative.

Seamless Railway Scenery

What lies at the end of the tracks? Well, who says they ever have to end? This update brings five seamlessly looping railway scenes, including some of my most exotic locales yet.

Sky - What's keeping the rails afloat? Probably whatever magical force is keeping those chunks of islands and ancient ruins up! This map is an excellent complement to Forgotten Adventures' Shattered Sky Temple.

Desert - Whether your destination is a wild west town in the midst of desolate wastes, or an ancient tomb buried beneath the sand, you can be grateful for the contained climate of a train car to keep the sand out of your boots, at least for a little while.

Volcanic - Who would build a rail through the depths of a volcano? Or perhaps through the Plane of Fire? Either way, you'll want to keep all limbs within the vehicle until you reach your destination.

Winter - Enjoy the frosty views while barreling through blizzards and rattling bridges over freezing rivers. Careful opening those windows! You'd be surprised how fast you can lose an ear in this chill.

Galactic - It's always night on the galactic railroad. Does this train travel between planets, or between planes? Or perhaps the conductor checking tickets is a psychopomp, seeing that souls reach their final destinations.

Steam whistles pierce the air. Metal rails rattle under heavy carriages. These are the sound of progress. Train cars ferry people from every level of society across vast distances. From luxurious sleeper cars and smoky lounges to cramped and dirty "economy" travel bunks, there's something for everyone! You can find the other complementing train cars I released back in February with the Forest Railway.

It is a common misconception that airships "fall" out of the sky. Their aerodynamic nature does afford even the clunkiest barge some degree of gliding. But when they do come crashing down, it can be spectacular, and even this lightweight acsian-model scouting vessel can do a lot of collateral damage. Amidst leveled trees, broken glass, and twisted metal, lies the broken pieces of a once noble airborne vessel, now permanently grounded.
